D&D 4E Why is this board so down on 4E critics?

Humorous Postscript: One might attribute the replies to this thread as a dogpile.
Do not be fooled!

The replies are merely disparate individuals defending their honor as free-thinkers and men + women of moderate temper.

As soon as people started airing WotC's dirty laundry about their "If you can't say anythign good about 4E, don't say nothing at all." e-mail, the thread got shut down. Has ENWorld been paid off by WOtC or what? Does anyone have a good explanation for this?
This last bit, for instance... Is it that unreasonable for us to demand proof of such a letter (and I read the thread on the Paizo boards -- the OP there mused on the nature of such proof, before electing to provide none at all in place of unsatisfactory ditto)?
Similarly, is it that unreasonable to feel slightly riled at being accused of being in anyone's pocket, especially when (I assure you) the financial arrangement between myself and Messrs. Mearls et al is quite the reverse of what you've implied? :D

Explanation: Human nature. Enjoy!

It isn't. Not the board as a whole, and especially not the mods or admins. There's small groups on both ends of the spectrum that can get very nasty (or annoying), and the rest is somewhere inbetween. It's sad that you got that impression from ENWorld 4E Forum, but I dare say you're in the minority. :) And that's from somebody who's also not cheerleading 4E into the field, and who got temp-banned once for temper reasons. Simply relax and have the same calm and constructive discussions as usual on the old board, and everything's okay.

This is two issues. The first is how someone who criticizes 4e gets treated by the people posting. And second how the moderators deal with things.

The mods don't care for the most part what is being said but how you say it. As long as posters are polite, don't call people names, and stay away from politics and religion the mods really stay invisible. The problem is with 4e people on both sides have not done that so it seems that the mods are doing more with the 4e stuff and they are. Not because its 4e but because the way posters are reacting to it and the type of posts that are being made.

Perhaps there is something in the nature of a negative post that makes it *appear* to have a higher jerk component than a positive post would.

I think you're right. It's the nature of criticism. People are usually critical about it. ;)

In this instance, it's pretty impossible for proof to be supplied. If the person claiming that WotC sent such an email copies and pastes it into a post and shows the world, it can easily be claimed that he merely typed it up himself. How can he prove it came from WotC?

It's the perfect conspiracy. :p

Perfectly frustrating.

Fact: I'm pro-4E.

Fact: I was temporarily banned by the mods for being too rough on anti-4E posters.

Fact: I deserved to be temp banned.

Assumption: There's no EN World bias one way or the other.

Assumption: You don't get banned for being anti-4E, you get banned for being stupid.

Opinion: Morrus just just state "Don't be stupid or you'll get suspended, and continuing acts of stupidity will get you banned."

I'm not the only who has this impression of ENWorld. I've heard enough people comment about it, that I think it's safe to say that it has the reputation of being rabidly, blatantly pro-4e with little tolerance for anti-4E posts. I have personally seen someone get suspended for a fairly mild anti-4E comment with no warning. It was a disgusting display of a moderator's abuse of power. So you can see how I formed this opinion of ENWorld.

There are just as many irrational anti-4e people as irrational pro-4e people, and that irrational love or hate gets you to say stupid things, like

"4e is only for children and dumb people!"

or

"I love this idea for 4e, and you must be afraid of change!"

It's a shame that lots of people have formed a negative opinion of this site.
It's a shame that you didn't get to see enough of the context behind the banning for it to seem justifiable.
It'd be nice to fix these: Any ideas how to fix the first? (Not sure about the second, though I guess you could always email a mod to ask. I just wouldn't expect an answer, as they're busy and they don't exactly owe you nuffink.)

But I'm pretty sure that the impressions you have aren't accurate, in that polite anything seems to survive for a good-long-while. 'Course, I'm an EN World fanboy, so you have to take everything I say about my favorite message board with a grain of salt.

And even better, because WotC would naturally deny sending such a letter, there is no chance to exonerate themselves. There is no proof that would be construed as FACT for either side. It is a perfect conspiracy and completely unworthy of discussion.
