Why no wands of Haste

I thought the bucket of snails came from here. :uhoh:

(Or from the WotC boards. I'd be amazed if anyone has actually used it in play.)

From memory, Bucket o' Snails came from here. The WotC Boards version was the Bag of Rats.

Then for 3.5, after Whirlwind Attack changed so that Bucket o' Snails was no longer viable, there was something involving zombie puppies... but I can't quite recall the details.

so how much 'not quite' cover? 1% 5% 10%?

I've only played in one event, but the RPGA event I played in Gen Con '04 was one of the best gaming experiences of my life. Played with 4 friends & 2 strangers and we all had the best time ever gaming & getting in character.

Why not? You've gotta have it on your class list in order to be able to use it (or be able to make a DC 25 UMD check), so it's not like every fighter's gonna be walking around with them. Or are you concerned about Wizards getting a +20 to their next attack roll with their quarterstaves? That is, any more concerned than you would be if that same Wizard had a sack of True Strike scrolls?

Wasn't that the zombie puppies (so they aren't cute and cuddly any more), Great Cleave, and Combat Reflexes trick (i.e., the puppies all just run away, you kill them, and cleave on to your intended target)?

Problem is zombie puppies wouldn't run away...

looking at the wording of my "so how much 'not quite' cover? 1% 5% 10%?" seem like i did post it incorrectly. I was asking if the percent of the "bad apples" was [1% 5% 10%] rather than the percent of the good apples.

I do apologize if i made it sound like I was asking if 99% of the RPGA was rotten.

[...] Did the rogue player ask about getting the wand, or was he just going through the DMG like a shopping list?

I recommend letting him by a 5 to 10 charge wand at a discount rate. If that does not send things out of whack in game, then let him buy the normal ones.

I have a "shopping list" problem with my current campaign, but I fear that I have created it :(

I'm currently thinking about/looking for a new approach to the magic item "market", especially something that is coherent with my favorite setting (FR).

Finally, I have already decided to do like you recommend.

I've had the exact opposite experience. Every RPGA event I've been to has been a lot of rushing past the NPCs so you can get to your 3 fights and cash out your loot. Also, there's a player who made a 10th or 12th level character who can do something like 400 points of damage each round for 6 or 7 rounds as far as line-of-sight can carry using a particular array of feats and spells from the various WotC sources. So, yeah. YMMV. I can't imagine going back.
