Why no WotC M:tG and D&D crossover?

First Post
I just got into Magic: The Gathering, and I can't help but look at all the cool cards and say, "I want to see that statted out for d20."

M:tG has several "settings" that sound really cool and interesting, like Mirrodin and Ice Age. Why doesn't WotC capitalize on M:tG's popularity to boost D&D sales? There is a dearth of imaginative creatures and artifacts for each themed setting that would provide an instant base of material to put a new D&D campaign setting together.

Thoughts?

I remember reading something about this.

If I remember correctly, the various divisions were a little uncomfortable with each other at first and they were worried about "branding". In other words, they were worried that a crossover might weaken the D&D and MtG product lines because only people who played both would buy either and people who only liked one of the two would stop or slow down purchasing.

But it's been awhile since I read up on that. I could be totally, totally wrong.

PS Totally.

Still, it's a shame they don't seem to want to take a shot at this. Even just a few one-off books would be cool. A monster book and a spell book would be the easiest and probably most useful. Slivers, Thallids, and more Thrulls than you can shake a stick at. :)

Ewww...Magic: the Gathering. Evil! Addiction! Card Crack!

Seriously, some of the Magic creatures would make cool additions to D&D. However, it would be controversial. Many D&D players would feel violated by allowing Magic elements to come into D&D, and many Magic players want nothing to do with D&D.

Because there would be rioting in the streets. Okay, maybe not, but it would be a bad idea.

I, personally, would lose quite a bit of faith in WotC. And I suspect I'm not alone. A D&D/M:tG crossover would be a joke, but I wouldn't be laughing.

Of course, I think the WarCraft d20 is a joke, too. And the EverQuest RPG, too. So, you can take my stance with a grain of salt. I just don't like peanut butter in my chocolate (actually, I don't like peanut butter at all, so that's probably a really go analogy, especially with WarCraft -- ugh).

I think it would be a great idea. I've always wanted to roleplay in the world of Dominaria, especially if all that cool art could be used in a campaign sourcebook. I never liked MTG as a game, but as a high-level exotic setting it would be fantastic.

Summoning could be a hugely important skill in such world, with even fighters being able to conjure some monsters or items out of thin air. The heroes would be truly world-shaking, the plotlines would be epic, and stakes would be the whole dimension! It sure sounds more fun that the epic level handbook.

I'm for a monster book and maybe a book of spells.

I doubt whether I'd buy a setting or anything like that, though I might if it looked cool enough. But I run my own world, so I doubt I'd ever use it.
