Why Paladins Rock

I agree about the half-plate/full plate issue. Such things are made for war, not adventuring. Even a simple chain hauberk is exhausting if worn all day long. I can't even imagine plate. And it's so bulky and unmaneuverable! Truth be told, if it wasn't for the armor bonus, most of my cleric/paladin characters wouldn't wear anything heavier than a chain shirt. That's why I like the Defense Bonus rules from UA so much.

Personally, Torm, I think it's time to revert to your OTHER avatar - it's getting hard to tell you and Darth K. apart. :D

Have you ever played a space fighter sim game (X-Wing\Tie Fighter\Wing Commander\etc)? Have you ever noticed how much harder the "protect other ship X" missions are than the regular "destroy objectives" missions? They are for me, anyway - and the same thing would apply, I suspect, to a Special Mount/Animal Companion/Familiar for me.

The frustrating thing for me was trying to follow the enemy fighters around and take 'em out with lasers, so I would always just use proton torpedoes or concussion missiles or something and stay in one place and destroy them that way. Of course, I used the infinite ammo cheat. But we all have our peccadilloes.

Much better, even if looking at it gives me visions of a flying oven mitt smiting a demon while screaming "Fear the True, the Loyal Fury of Arbee's, evil scum!!" :D

Yeah, it sort of reminds me of the Paladin with the Happy-Face Sock Puppet...

My Paladins all seem to prefer chain shirts - Mithril, if available. Other than Wizards, the rest of my characters, too. Seems to be the best balance of AC vs. penalties, to me, period.

And in answer to your question, Nifft - I suppose so. But believe it or not, I have never played a Paladin with a Special Mount! Wings, yes, but a Special Mount, no.

Mine has one but hasn't used it since the cleric loves to cast Wind Walk everytime we need to go somewhere fast...

Everyone - I fixed the first post of the thread, btw. Darned Bane! :]

No fair! :p Shoulda just killed Bane again! That woulda solved alot of probs..... ;)

When I play a Paladin opposite a rogue or other stealthy type in the party, my job is to draw attention away from the rogue so they can get in position to stab someone in the spine. Otherwise, I stay out of the way. :)

Heh. I had a friend play the "chaotic" paladin who, for some fool reason, ran into the DARK woods, screaming his stupid head off like he was some dumb barbarian....... :\ This woulda been sorta fine had he NOT been playing a paladin to the Nordic god of Protecton: Heimdall....... I guess the player had seen the scene too many times of Han Solo chasing the stormtroopers, screaming his head off until he runs into the rest of the platoon........ :uhoh:
