I think I'd refer to mine as my "+2 babysitter".

Put it up there with the +1 Viscious Thundering Knockback Gauntlet named "Polite Suggestion".

Big difference in comparison though. In D&D and RL the rules for physics don't match (I'd hate to have to use calculus to resolve combat...). In both D&D and RL, smacking a baby with the blunt end of a metal object to keep it quiet is definitely evil.

Howabout if you suffocate the baby for a while so it goes back to sleep?

I don't remember the exact page, but in 3.0 subdual damage started becoming lethal after it exceeded the characters hp.

p.134-135 of the 3.0 PHB deals with subdual damage. It makes no mention of it transferring to lethal damage.

This also greatly depends on the world you are playing in. I've been in campaigns where killing an orc child was A-OK. It was, however, common knowledge that orcs were a created race and thus soulless and irredeemably evil. I grant that this is probably not the norm.

Well, for myself, I cannot remember ever seeing children of races that were bad. We never had to worry about Drow Brats, or Kobold Hatchlings.

Even the idea that a group of adventurers WOULD sneak past things seems anathema to most groups I've met. I've had various sorts of paladins, and not all are heavy armor types, but I imagine quite a high percentage of paladins are.

I mean, if the group had simply slit the throats of every adult goblin they passed, the baby crying wouldn't matter.

If it's Mother is dead, that's still a death sentence for the baby goblin.
