Something I encountered lately is this:

- May a medium sized character wield Large or even Huge weapons? (Not looking at whether it's effective strength and penalty wise for a moment)

I thought that was ok, but my DM states that he understands the PHB as it not even being possible.

Generally you can equip a weapon one size category larger than you are. If you are a Medium creature (as most are) then you can wield a large light weapon as a 1-handed weapon, a large 1-handed weapon as a 2-handed weapon, and larger 2-handed weapons cannot be used at all. Wielding these larger weapons incurs a -2 penalty on attack rolls.

With the feat Monkey Grip (Complete Warrior) you can wield a weapon one size category larger than you are in the same number of hands as normal with that same -2 penalty.

the wield oversized weapon feat is considered somewhat better than monkey grip, iirc. also, acquire powerful build if one can manage it. otherwise consider titan blood for the weird rule it allows.
