Wife's first game...

Last week they watched, as one of two films, The Last Unicorn and the week before it was The Dark Crystal.
Train them young, Wicht!
Tonights game will feature Dinotopia (just bought today at Walmart) for the kids. Its 240 minutes long and features dinosaurs - I figure it should work. :D
I'm surprised you're able to get them to watch multiple different videos... ;)

Ahhh, memories...

My wife's first RPG was also the day we met. A common friend wanted to introduce us, and told her I was the best Dungeon Master in the city (which was moot because she didn't know what a Dungeon Master was). That first night in her apartment we played, she made an excellent eskimo  bard character, and we fell in love during the session. She invited me to her bed after the game, and I haven't left that bed in six years :D

Now we are happily married, expecting a first baby, and she still plays with my group every saturday. And I have the satisfaction to know that the woman I love fell in love with me while seeing me doing what I love most :)

Actually, QB, we played as a group of 4 married couples (although one couple is out for a while: just had a baby Sunday night) and between us we have 10 kids, the oldest two of which are only 6. We just throw them all down into the basement with some movies and popcorn, and for the most part, we can play in peace.

For the most part. :D

Now THAT's a fantastic story. I knew this had to happen somewhere, but I'd never heard it before now. Who says Dungeon Masters don't get the women? :)

Thanks!

Man, you must be some Dungeon Master!

I finally got my wife to play. She gave it an honest shot. She made a character and even flipped through the PHB a bit. She hated D&D. She liked the part where her halfling sorceror got to blow up an ogre's head but she thought all the "talking parts" were boring and that it took too long between player's turns.

Oh well. At least we're in love. ;)

Josh:
I think my wife would be far more likely to give gaming a shot in a group similar to yours, where the players are couples. As for the kids, that would solve our problems relating to the six year-old, but not the six month-old :D. In his case, we'd have to hold out 'til he fell asleep, although I did entertain and feed him thru the first hour of one session a couple of months back.

d12:
Without a group setting like Josh's, I'm guessing my wife's reaction would be similar to yours primarily because she'd be very self conscious roleplaying with six or seven guys.

isirga eth:
Excellent story, my brother. Kudos to you and your fair wife.

QB: Yes, I was nervous about that as well. We have a 10-month old, who didn't really do as well as we'd have liked at not disturbing us, and he didn't seem to want to go asleep at someone else's house. Go figure.

But I think a major reason she enjoyed it was because it was a social affair with friends of ours. She's certainly not far enough along to enjoy gaming for it's own sake yet. If ever!

Thanks... I think what got her was my 18 Cha (yeah, I wish:rolleyes:)

No, really, what convinced her to MARRY me after that first night was my way to do the dishes and sweep the floor ;)
