We have a PS3 and a Wii. The PS3 sees more use as a streaming device for Netflix, Hulu, etc. The Wii sees a lot more gaming use by the kids. The kids have played the Kinect at some friends houses and really seem to want one of those now. I think if I had to do it over again I would have gone the XBox route, though this is largely based on the games the kids seem most interested in playing.

WiiMu is coming end of 2012/spring 2013...

WiiMu will have a "tablet" controller and rumor is that it will work with existing tablets so you won't have to buy a tablet just for the console...

Uhmmm...it's Wii U, not WiiMu.

Nintendo CEO Iwata stated that the Wii U would not be released in fiscal year 2012, which means anytime after April 2012. But also stated that it would be out for the 2012 Holiday Season...which means most likely, Summer 2012 (fall at the latest).

The tablet controller only works with one per console, though they are talking about possibly incorporating functionality for more than one simultaneously. The Nintendo 3DS may also work as a tablet controller, but working with existing tablets is not part of the design, nor are there any plans for it. I'm not sure where that rumor came from as I've never heard it before, and all official anouncements make no such declarations.

B-)

I've used all three. Kinect is the best of them. You do need a 6x8 space in front of your TV to get the most use out of it. I get a lot of use from mine (Dance Central, Gunstringer, Child of Eden, Fruit Ninja, Kinect Sports, Brain and Body Connection, Your Shape).

Perhaps the answer is Mu. No idea where the M came from.

I didn't want to complicate the discussion by bringing up that limitation. I think they didn't realize how cool it would be to play sports games where you could actually pick a complicated play without your opponent seeing what you are doing. They see the tablet as an inventory screen that you access occasionally, I think.

Gameinformer.com as I don't go anywhere else. But it may have just been speculation that took root in my brain. Still, I suspect Nintendo will be reamed if there isn't "an app for that" (plus a plastic housing), especially for iPod Touch. Who really wants to buy a tablet that only works with a console, especially if they already have one?

Yeah, I think that's the way they've been seeing it also. But it seems like they're getting a lot of questions and interest in being able to use multiple console tablets. Another use people are envisioning is being able to bring their personalized tablet over to someone elses house for use on anothers Wii console. Hopefully they're seriously listening and taking this as feedback that it might be a good idea to have mutiple tablet functionality.

I agree. From what I've read in interviews though (so far) they seem reticient about it. Maybe they don't want to bother with making the Wii able to interact with multiple operating systems or brands...? I would definitely like that though. My wife would be ecstatic if she could use her iPad with it.:D

Also another point that might be relevant is that the system will be in a small space (I hear tha Kinect needs lots of space for it's cameras)

There's actually a third-party device you can buy that specifically lessens the required space that the Kinect needs to function properly. Good for people with small rooms I guess.

I should point out that I'm about as anti-MS as a person can get and yet I only have good things to say about my Xbox.

The Kinect will allow you to play Mass Effect 3 with voice commands.

Game over.

I saw the preview video for that on xbox live. It looks intriguing and is a simple way to integrate kinect with a shooter game.

providing you don't have background noise and other people passing through the play area to interefere with the voice recognition...

Headset.

And I lied before, I actually do have a big complaint about the Xbox and it's not a minor issue either. Mine is a 4GB slim and it keeps wiping my USB thumb drives, seemingly at random as I cannot discern any pattern to the incidents. This effectively means using USB thumb drives for extra drive space and saved games is utterly pointless since if I can't predict what is wiping them, I can't prevent it or work around it. I've tried three different manufacturers, and four different physical drives and it happens to all of them within a day or two.

I've since resolved to get a 250gb xbox drive but quite frankly I think this situation is unacceptable and literally forces you into purchasing an extra product just to make effective use of the console.

The other problem I think they face is that the tablet controllers will not be cheap. So I would think that anything that let's not take a loss on selling a controller would only benefit them. The problem is the Official controller will also have direction buttons as well as A B C and Z buttons. Most 3rd party tablets will obviously not have that which is why suspect a housing for iPod Touch or iPad is more likely.
