Wii with the family online

Felon

First Post
My mom and sister live together, and they've just bought a Wii so they can do Wii Fit. So, for the first time since I've gotten my Wii, I'm interested in what the Wii can do to connect me with people online. Seems like it's pretty weak in community-oriented features though. Don't see any options for chatting or even seeing when a friend is on (features I've taken for granted with the Xbox 360). You can send emails, but so what? I don't see a strong presence of online co-op games either.

Any suggestions here? Maybe I'm missing something? For a gadget that every househould wants, it sure has failed to develop in a number of obvious areas.

The online communitcation aspect of it is weak, but from the couple interviews i've seen, that was done on purpose (in a way).

Given their goal of being "family friendly" they didn't want the xboxlive experience of hearing "chatter from strangers who curse every 5 seconds when you may have a 10 year old playing in the same group" etc. -- this was said in an interview in relation to Mario Kart Wii. While WiiFit isn't a competative game like Kart, I think that gives a good glimpse in to the online approach mentality that they have for Wii in general.

But, anyway, yeah, it's not for online chatting. Just some messaging via the emails.
