Wilding Clasp + Armor + Wildshape

Sorry if this one was already answered, but the search wont work and I need an answer as soon as possible.

So, here is my question : Can you attach a Wilding Clasp to an Hide Armor an use the armor as normal while in wildshape?

There's a big argument in my group concerning that particular case and I'd like to have your insight on it. Some members of our group think that an amulet could be resized but not an hide armor (wouldn't fit a bear or a rat for example) and they are saying that it can only be used effectively with a divine focus or an amulet like a Periapt of Wisdom.

Please help.

Thanks

Eric Mat.

The Wilding Clasp only works for items that can be placed in the Amulet/Periapt slot. No other magic item can be used with a Wilding Clasp.

Wilding Clasp + Periapt of Wisdom = :)

Wilding Clasp + Hide Armor = :(

Actually it's "amulet, vest or similar item" ... the problem is that for some DM's similar item means 'amulet or vest slotted item' and for others it means all sorts of stuff you can wear ... but armors are out ... you have to have a "wild" armor for that.

Ok, but if the Wilding Clasp can only use the "amulet slot", why do WotC use a vest as an exemple of item to be used with the clasp in the definition of the item (see MotW)?

Is this "slot rule" part of an official errata? I didn't see it in the errata on Masters of the Wild.

Thanks a lot Brekki.

So a druid vestment would be fully functionnal but not an hide armor.
My apologies. I went back and rechecked the description and it is indeed an amulet, vest, or similar item. And here I was positive it was only an amulet (I'd read over the description a week or so ago).

:o

I love druids :D

Most of my DM's also allow a belt or headband, but that's houserules.

Luckily I'm now mostly into 3.5, so no more wilding clasps and three cheers for the bear with belt/headband/bracers/amulet/boots/rings/vest :D

Be careful with Boots. You are a 4 legged creature and 1 set of boots may not be enough for you in a wildshape.
Imagine your hind legs moving at 3 times your front legs.) :p

Hum! Interesting. I didn't know that you could keep nearly all of your equipment without a wilding clasp in 3.5.

I'll definitely need to look through that 3.5 player's handbook...

The wildshape ability refers you to polymorph which refers you to alter self. Alter self says:

When the change occurs, your equipment, if any, either remains worn or held by the new form (if it is capable of wearing or holding the item) or melds into the new form and becomes nonfunctional.

So, a druid that wildshapes into a bear will be able to keep any item that a bear could wear. This begs the question, "What can an animal form wear?"

The 3.5 DMG (pg 214) lists what items a humanoid form can wear, but does not list what items other forms can wear.

Page 213 indicates that items should generally resize to accomodate size and girth. It does not indicate how an item should be treated if it is not designed to conform to the shape that the creature assumes. It also specifically mentions that armor and weapons have fixed sizes: they do not resize.

This leaves us with a guideline for how to handle magic items on wildshaped druids, but that guideline is very broad. I came up with narrower descriptions for use in my game, but under the core rules, DMs are free to decide what merges and what does not merge on a case by case analysis.
