Again, isn't focusing on a single setting precisely what they did for most of 5e? Outside of a few other AP's, virtually every book for 5e was laser beam focused on the Sword Coast.

Why is the idea of having a sort of "default" setting such a bizarre thought?

This is actually, completely untrue. The last couple of years WotC has published 1 Sword Coast adventure and about 9 set elsewhere.
And in the first seven years, they published Sword Coast adventures almost exclusively. It's only been in the past couple of years that we're seen any branching out. And, now with 2024 on the shelves, what's the first big release? Oh, right, honking big Forgotten Realms set.

Any bets on how many of the next, say, ten AP's from WotC will take place in the FR?

For the first couple of years SCAG was the only setting book available, so that was the only place they could set adventures. But they moved away from that when they could.

And the fist setting published for the new rules was Greyhawk. FR is the second setting (and we are getting Dark Sun next year). So that is basically one a year.

Yes, and that was a fascinating Greyhawk AP wasn't it? Just riveting.

I mean, we've got Greyhawk IN the DMG, and yet not a single actual adventure for Greyhawk. :erm: You'd think they might lean into it just a little, but, apparently, the only actual Greyhawk adventure will be a reprint compendium from several years ago.

Greyhawk is generic, any Forgotten Realms adventure can be set there, just change a few names.

And anyway, how many adventures have been published since the DMG? Oh yes, none.
