Wildshaping.

Question

First Post
Lets say you have a level 15 druid with levels in master of many forms(for simplicity). Can you wildshape into a 15 HD shambling mound, or are you limited to the base HD in the stats block?

You CANNOT wildshape into a form that has lower HD than the norm in the stat block correct?

A 15HD shambling doesn't exist as a general creature unless the DM creates one, calling it, say, an elder shambling mound. Otherwise, such a creature would have to be a specific creature, like Bob the 15HD shambling mound.

Although no rule specifically prohibits it, I don't think the rules support wildshaping into specific creatures like Bob.

You are limited to the 8HD Shambling Mound's stat block (physical abilities only). You still have your 15th level BAB and hitpoints though.

Please note that the Druid's Wildshape ability has been errata'd to use the Alternate Form ability in the MM... which has also been errata'd.

Correct.

Shambling Mounds have 8HD. Therefore, yes, a 15th-level druid can wildshape into one. That is, one with 8HD.

Although the druid still has 15 HD for all HD-based effects. He just doesn't get the size and associated stat increases that a shambling mound gets for advancing to 15HD.

Arent there rules for advancing shambling mounds past 8 HD? That doesnt count?

I would use the baseline those creatures that are explicitly statted out in the Core Monster Manual, excluding the sample Advanced ones or sample Templated ones.

Anything else is a kindness on the part of the DM.

It's worth noting that they're class hit dice, and not racial hit dice, however.

A lot of special attacks have a DC calculated as 10 + Ability Mod + half Racial hit dice; the average 15th level druid has 15 class hit dice, and zero racial hit dice...
