Hey all,

Just been reading thru all the diffrent ideas for D20 Modern and was wondering if from what people know of it, would it work for a Stargate SG-1 setting?

I think this would be a good setting as you could introduce diffrent races, worlds, etc every adventure if you wanted to without pushing beliveability to much. (for a game that is)

Yeah, I think with some tweaking you could very easily do Stargate. Problem would be the preponderance on military characters.. you'd probably want to develop some advanced classes as well.. possibly make some Goa'uld technology magic/psi based, since some of it requires Naquida to operate.

The hard Sci-Fi stuff could easily be adopted from Dargonstar, SW or Traveller d20.. Ultramodern firearms would work for SG1/earth tech as well.

Let me know how you proceed. I'm not planning on running any games, but I could help I know a lot about SG-1.

Are there any episodes of Stargate SG1 available on either video or DVD? I saw the original movie and one or two episodes fo the tv show, but I have been thinking about running an SG1 type campaign.

Depends on your definition of military. The doctors who work for the military have rank, but no one expects them to offer up tactical advice. Hmmm

Advanced Class / Possible Rank / Function
Soldier; Martial Artist / Enlisted or NCO / Infantry, Special Ops
Gunslinger; Infiltrator / Enlisted or NCO / Infantry, Special Ops
Daredevil; Bodyguard / Officer, WO / Pilot, Armor, Special Ops
Field Scientist; Techie / Officer, WO / Support
Field Medic; Investigator / Enlisted or NCO / Medic, MP
Negotiator / Enlisted, Officer, WO / translator, cultural specialist.

Now for the last one, Personality, that could represent something like a political observer or a military specialist who’s become a golden boy to the program. In a top secret project like SG-1, the Personality AdC is sort of out of place.

My point is that the military can give a rank to anyone who takes a paycheck from them. Usually, everyone is breifed about a team member's expertise. You can't work as a team if you don't know everyone's strengths and weaknesses.

"So Mr. Negotiator, ever handled a gun before?"

"Uhh, no."

"Then come with me. I'd like to make sure you learn and stay alive. We need you."

*From Mr. Personality*
"Hey guys, how come you don't teach me how to shoot a gun?"
. . .
"Guys?"

AS far as the personality issue, yeah generally they would not work, but you could make a politician a personality class..

political observer = politician

You've got it. Though a political observer can also include a foreign ambassador, inspector, or even a member of a foreign military unit who's there just to observe. Basicaly anyone who has pull but isn't requried to pull their weight so to speak.

Now in true multiclass tradition, you could add levels of Personality to further enhance someone's fame when just a high Reputation won't do. Somehow that last sentence became a pseudo metaphor.

In thinking this over, if I ever got d20 Modern I would probably use it for "non-latex" SF set ups, such as SG-1, Firefly and Asimov's Foundation series.

I know that the entire first season is on DVD. I think the entire second season is on DVD as well.

I'd also look at John Tynes' site (URL eludes me ATM) as he was working on a Stargate RPG at one point and a good chunk of his work is posted there.

You could. You may have to create specific occupation to reflect the various duties that are involved in the Stargate Project.

Goa'uld and Jaffa should be template to reflect the sybiosis with "juniors," otherwise they're non-hosted humans. Template should work for the Unas (the first creature to be "hosted").

You may need to expand on other alien species, as well as advanced humans.
