Will Modern need a revision too?

It's like not playing D&D because you don't like the Arcane Archer PrC, or because you hate the Kingdoms of Kalamar Setting.

Well, that's one way to play it. You can also play it without monsters and magic, either high-action like james bond or more realistic.

Well, I disagree with a Prestige Class, but yeah, if Greyhawk were less generic, or the Forgotten Realms were the default, I would have stuck to my remedy for 2E, the PFRPG. Scary, eh?

The core mechanics of d20 Modern seem about as generic as you can get while still retaining classes.
I thought he was talking about the art selection, which is somewhat skewed towards an Urban Arcana-style modern fantasy theme. I don't have too much of a problem with it, but I can see where it might be offputting to some people.

I was referring to the art ... Thanks King.

Although the Monster section is pretty much D&D, where as I would have preffered a plethora of Modern foes.

The Art turned off everyone I can talk to.

The Modern D&D thing is dumb IMO, but I respect those who want it. I just would have rather seen more variety.

I didn't need more Kobold stats or to see a Gnoll in a pimp outfit.

Just completely rubbed me the wrong ways...

Personally, I try not to let art be a primary criteria for a game ruleset when I shop for RPG.

Heck, some of the good rule material can be found on messageboard with plain ole Arial fonts and no pics.

If you wish to wait, then more power to you. I just hope that you'll consider other product made primarily for d20 Modern will also catch your attention, even if they deviated away from "modern fantasy."

Such products like Somolia: d20.

But I guess you only like one type of modern/sci-fi genre: post-holocaust atomic mutant world.

Not a problem Malcoda.

In fact, I was impressed by the "Archetype" class idea. I thought it was a neat idea that made it portable from many genres

My players were not however. They really disliked it. They wanted classes that had a "cool factor". Things like "Soldier" or "Professional thief".

While I felt the idea was cool, they were uninspired by the whole thing.

And I am pretty sure that Ranger REG is referring to someone else about the post apocalyptic setting thing. While that sounds like a neat idea, I actually am interest in a variety of settings in the modern era.

Not at all inspired by the art though. Bad art (quality wise) doesn't bother me any where as bad as art that I don not like (subjective wise) or think is just silly (as in urban arcana). But I must admit as to picking up and looking at RPG items simply because of the flash factor, as those can be inspiring. Itr eventually has to pass my rules test though.

Coc has a nice system though. Kindof a cross between D20 modern and star wars mechanics wise.

Well, the art in the d20 Modern book is pretty bad, and although not a big selling point (I also played Runequest in the past, with horrendous art) it doesn't add to the feel of the game to me.

The group plays Deadlands (original) and CoC (brp), we are not really constrained to Gamma World, but that is a game a few of us played in the past and wish to play again. Nobody is really into the spy or modern feel type game in the group, and I buy most everything, but others also buy books and materials, so I am not being a facist about the game, we all discuss our options and go from there. Gamma World strikes a chord with the group.

A fellow Idahoan! Egads!

Born and raised in Pocatello myself, but am quite a ways away these days.

At any rate, as others have alluded to, many of the changes that are going into revised were originally devised for d20 modern. The simplified combat explanation and modified jump skill come to mind.

There are a few wonky things that could use looking into. Non-lethal damage comes to mind. But I don't think they'll do a revision over that.
