Will sales of Arcane Power prove WotC right?

Even though the PHB2 was pirated, WotC claimed that the book sold out of its first printing and they were rushing to meet retailer demand for a second printing.

Now that WotC is no longer selling .pdf files -- and therefore, there will be no OEF versions to pirate* -- do you think that sales of Arcane Power will go through the roof? What about all future 4th edition books?

Granted, I would expect Arcane Power -- just like Martial Power -- to have less of an audience than the PHB2, but I would also expect WotC to account for that in their first print run.

*Yes, I know that the book will be scanned and made available anyway, but it won't be an OEF.

NO!

NAY!

NIET!

NOPE!

NEGATIVE!

NOT A CHANCE!

(More than likely, I'd say probably not.):o

Not quite as emphatically, but I agree that there probably won't be any noticable difference in sales numbers. I had my paper book on order before the PDF line was pulled. I only order PDFs of out of print stuff... I like the scent of a new book.

I also wonder if the nerdrage will translate to lower sales.

In the past I bought the hard copy and the PDF now I'm obviously not buying the PDF but will possibly acquire the hard copy (unless I decide to hang up my DM's hat completely).

Nope. It won't change things. Same for future 4e books.

Yep. I expect sales to continue to decline.

Don't get too excited about WOTC saying a run has sold out. It does not mean gamers have bought all the copies. It only means distributors bought out the run and WOTC has none in their warehouse. Plus we do not know the size of the print run. The print run could have only been 10,000 copies. No big deal.

In the publishing industry, I don't think selling out the first print run says much as it is usually pretty conservative. Now welling out the 2nd, 3rd and so on means something.

Check out books recommended by Oprah, and how they almost immediately go into extra print runs. Publishing companies would rather sell all of a smaller print run than most of a larger print run.

There has been one lonely copy of the PHB2 hanging on the shelf of my game store for the last 3 weeks, so it certainly has not sold out as in unavailable.
