Will Smith is starring in the 2007 I Am Legend production. Directed by Francis Lawrence. It is based on Richard Matheson's novel of the same name, but the film will apparently be closer to The Omega Man (1971), the second film adaptation of the novel, rather than the first film adaptation The Last Man on Earth (1964). I Am Legend is set to be released on December 14, 2007.

I like Will Smith, despite his overblown star status. And I'm cautiously looking forward to this film, even though I forsee it not adapting some of the book's darker themes and messages.

I just hope the vampires (or whatever they're called here) are scary as hell.

Bah. Will Smith isn't a legend.

He's a god! :)

I'm a big Will Smith fan. I look forward to this, though I hate to see Hollywood doing yet another big remake rather than something original.

My husband tells me that I saw a trailer for this movie before transformers, but I honestly absolutely cannot recollect it, despite his attempts to describe it to me.

However, I think it could be pretty cool, and I've liked Will Smith in most of the things I've seen him in so far.. I'm hoping to see it, depending on how scary the aforementioned vampires turn out to be.. I'm such a wimp! :(

I am realy hoping the movie is a good one (there is a trailer out) but have some concerns that Hollywood will dumb it down.

How so, you ask...
...Portable generator - he will not have any.
...His home - will not be secure.
...Mutants vampires - will just be flesh eating ghouls.

The trailer has him making regular AM radio broadcasts, and his words have him expecting them to be long-range. You can't do that with D-cell batteries, so he has to have a power source of some kind.

Or only the place he is transmitting from and it does not carry over to him when he is away. I hope not but...

I like Will Smith, but most of the movies he ends up doing invariably turn out as crap. As someone mentioned earlier, Hollywood tends to "dumb-down" his movies.

If the character really is alone in NYC it shouldn't be hard to generate some power. Solar panels, wind turbines plus gas powered generators. NYC is a very big place, lots of useful items just lying around... though why he isn't using a short wave radio is beyond me...
