Will there be a sequal to ToEE?

This is all second-hand knowledge, though. But based on what I've heard, it looks like Troika is just as much to blame as Atari is.

Quite possibly true. I only have second-hand knowledge, and I know there was a great deal of hulabaloo about it at the time.

As Kosh put it so well, "There are 3 sides to every story, your side, my side, and the truth."

Between that and Yoda's "Do, or do not. There is no try," it is strange that some of the best philosophy of today was spoken by puppets :)

Same here, it worked fine on my machine.

I have heard of them, but everything worked fine for me.Though I gather some of the bugs may have crept in when Atari went and yanked a bunch of the plots from the game, not being all that careful in the process.

The Auld Grump, who liked Arcanum by Troika as well

I just bought it recently and I love it. The 3.5 tactical fights are wonderful, the high point of the game. No problem with the lack of storyline here, I prefer games where you can go anywhere you want and do your own thing.

Bugwise, on my PC it sometimes pauses for interminable periods in the later stages, particularly in some of the nodes. There can sometimes be issues with being stuck in fight mode, too. Both are annoying but not disastrous.

I played and never had any problems except in areas that the Council of 8's patched opened. In other words in the brothel, but I figured out how to complete the quest anyways.

So, if I were to go out and buy this today what would I have to do to get a playable version?

Does it tell you that there are updates or ask for a web search? Do I have to go to a website or do I just google ToEE?

I would appreciate some insight on this, since I am thinking about getting this after a new computer.

Buy it.

Go to official site and download patch.

Install game. Install patch.

Play and enjoy. :)

The second official patch should make it a bug free experience. Now, if you REALLY want to squeeze everything you can out of ToEE, you might instead consider finding out which patches from the Council of 8 you can install. They reenable the brothel which has more NPC's and Quests and adds magic items and also some utility like allowing Read Magic to identify scrolls and potions instead of having to spend 100 gp to identify each one.
