Wilted Swords on Minis

DarkSoldier

First Post
I've seen Reaper's Dark Haven Legends minis, and I've noticed that minis holding long weapons have the blade/pole bent so the mini will fit in the package.

I've never owned a metal mini, so I'd like to know how to peoperly straighten out these limp weapons if I buy them. Anyone who suggests Viagra will be bonked.

Anyone who suggests Viagra will be bonked

Mebbe you should be a little more careful with your phraseology :)

I don't know about 'properly', but here's what I do: starting at the base, I use my fingers to warm the metal, then squeeze-bend it back into alignment, then move up doing the same. The downside is that WILL permanently weaken the metal.
Start at the base, because if you start at the tip you're more likely to snap it.

I follow DarkSoldier's plan except for two points.

1) During the initial "bending", I heat the metal with a hairdryer. it softens it a bit, and avoids breakage; but more importantly it allows you to...

2) Once you get in into shape, dunk it in ice-cold water. This is a really, really mickeymouse version of "tempering and hardening" the metal, but for something as fundamentally soft as pewter, it works pretty well as far as getting it to retain it's shape a little better.

Just because "bonked" means "hit" in American slang doesn't mean it doesn't mean something rude in other dialects.
You're lucky Eric's Grandma is American.

Geoff.

I usually cut the sword off and redrill the pommel with a pen vise and drill a hole into the sword. I insert a straight pin piece into the pommel and reattach the sword. I cover the joint with a bit of Kneadatite.

Point of information: they don't bend the minis so they fit in the blister packs. I have bought quite a few of their minis that didn't need to be bent but were anyway. I asked Reaper why and they were flippant in response. Great sculpting, shame about the production and customer service.

Wow, that's a lot of work. I just bend it back into shape and it usually stays there.

Usually the swords (etc) bend because of either heat or shaking and bouncing during shipping.

Anyone that told you they were bent on purpose (not a single one is...) was pulling your leg. It's too bad Reaper's customers don't have the sense of humor of the employees...

If it happens during shipping how do explain the mini I got by mail order that had a bent weapon that was sealed between the blister and the card backing? That could only have happened when it was packaged.

I don't find expensive minis that are knowingly damaged by the company that makes them remotely funny.

Except that the minis are not knowingly damaged by the company. That's just bull. You only believed that because you can't recognize humor.
