Design Me!

They want people to redesign two classic artifacts for 4th edition. The winner gets a copy of Plane Below, and a full set of Savage encounter minis.

They're disregarding the fact that Whelm also has 4E stats*, eh?

I'll probably put something together for Blackrazor, but I feel sorry for WOTC who are going to get tons of stats for not-Stormbringer and hardly anything for Whelm.

*) In Open Grave.

Yeah, I just noticed that. :)

Well, I don't have Open Grave, but the Whelm entry says the weapon is good for Paragon level adventurers, so it seems like it already is an artifact in 4e.

I mean I understand it's already been officially stated. I just don't think that matters as they're just asking people to design their OWN version of these artifacts in 4e for the sake of the contest.

They don't say give us the stats because we don't have them and they need stats; they're just asking you to try to redesign them with a 4e mindset, and they're picking the best one.

Whether or not the 4e stats already exist is beside the point.

Oh, huh, they changed it. They just want Blackrazor now, and mention Whelm's appearance in Open Grave.

Oh, and you have to be a resident of the US or Canada to participate. Pity.

I really hate this kind of thing. D&D is about as international a hobby as you can get and yet they restrict a competition for it to the US.

Massive fail.

I'd blame shipping, but they sent out loads of free Village of Hommlet to all RPGA members including non-American ones, so eh?
