I was having a discussion with my friend and we got to talking about how knowledge usually brings wisdom. Anyway she thinks thay are one and the same. I don't, but I want to know which is more important. Will anyone out there answer for me?

I see knowledge as basic book learning. I see wisdom as commone sense. So, I think they are different. However, it really comes from how one defines them. In D&D terms they have specific definitions, but out in the real world the definitions will vary from person to person. Many people do believe that knowledge brings wisdom, but that would be the apply things you've learned to the real world. The more you know, the more that can be applied.

I get that. For instance, if you have wisdom and you are faced with two choices, your wisdom will encourage you to choose the right one even though you've never had to make this particular decision before.

Correct. Wisdom can also allow you to use your own experience to find a coralation with something you have done with something you have not.

I would argue that wisdom is the proper application of knowledge.

Even if presented with a choice which is new, one relies on experience (a form of knowledge) or data (a second form of knowledge) with which to make a proper choice. Some people, lacking wisdom, will choose wrong even when they know better, but without some form of guide one is merely guessing (which is luck not wisdom).

Therefore knowledge without wisdom is useless. If you never apply what you know it profits you little.

But one cannot have wisdom without some degree of knowledge, thus a child has less wisdom for they have experience less.

And another thing, you have the same two choices as before, but this time you have the knowledge of what will happen if you pick either of the choices. However, this person's wisdom is about 1/10 of that of a flea's. So even though they still know it's the wrong choice, they still choose it because they haven't the brains to think about what they're doing.

I first said this when I was ten but I think it still applies:

Wisdom is not measured in what you know, but in what you do with what you know. PS: Pokémon rocks!!!!

Hope I was of some help. :p
