Don't worry too much about the painkillers -- I know there's a big mythos built up about getting addicted to them because of surgery, but I doubt it happens in most cases. After major surgery on my large intestine years ago, it was a case of take the hospital morphene or slit my wrists from the hideous pain. After I recovered, I had not the slightest inclination to take any more morphene. After all, I associate it with lying there in total misery, half dead, with blood leaking out of me ... not pleasant. So take what you need now, because I doubt seriously that it will have any long-term effects.
