Wither Star Wars d20?

Then we should thank JRR for having the doubt about LOTR being filmable. Otherwise, Christopher would have been controlling the four famous books under the Tolkien Estate.

Aaaaand you lost me. Don't quite catch your meaning, there. I'm quite the dullard though, so move along, nothing to see here.

Nope ... I think that they should deviate from the norm with their books. SWB's probably got it right with their licensing terms, but I'd love to see them cut some new ideas within the SWRPG ...
It still has to go through Lucasfim for review and approval, which I have heard they are much more stringent with WotC than they are with WEG.

So what WotC and we fans must do to expand SW d20 fanbase? After all, the more customers and demands there are, the more books they can guarantee to sell.

Should they do a rulebook makeover, to make the product more appealing and eye-catching to potential customers? Should they make products that are player-assisted, since a typical gaming group has 3 players to 1 GM ratio?

Kind of late to this discussion but if WoTC want to sell adventures they should have a decent setting section - provide enough description of cities, settlements, ruins etc to go with the adventure.

My take on SF RPGs is that they involve more work on the part of the GM, the player group has greater freedom to wander off track quickly. Anything that helps me to imagine and describe a world or area would be great. I rarely buy adventures but would be tempted for SWRPG as I personally find it harder to improvise a whole futuristic city on the fly...

;-)

Don't do a whole city. That's macro-management. Micro-manage and focus on points of interest in the city, where characters are likely to end up. I mean if the story calls for them to meet somebody at a cantina, then do the cantina and the surrounding area.

I gotta agree with Ranger REG on this one. There is a thing as too much detail. Give me the finer points for the really important sites, but let me have enough room to fill in the gaps myself.

I hate to put you on the spot, but that statement smacks of opinion. I'd like to know if you have hard facts to back up your affirmation.

Do you seriously doubt for a HEARTBEAT that if Hasbro was selling books in acceptale numbers vs. the cost to make them, that we would not be getting books for SWd20 at the same rate as D&D gets them (once a month or thereabouts).

If Hasbro was selling SWd20 in acceptable numbers, is there any doubt that various sourcebooks that were announced - then cancelled - would never have been cancelled?

IF SWd20 was selling in acceptable numbers, is there any doubt at all that Hasbro would not be considering dumping the whole RPG line?

They can't even support the thing in the pages of Dungeon on a one-off basis every now and then.

A matter of opinion? I wish it was.

Can you back up your assertion that Hasbro is considering dumping the RPG line? Has a Hasbro spokesperson stated this? Or are you guessing based on your own interpretation of WOTC's release schedule?

No one from WotC has said anything, but it looks that way. The best hope for the RPG line is if the minis game lisence is tied in with the RPG. I still think we could see more for the RPG line once Episode 3 is out, but each day that goes by makes me think that is less of a possibility.

Not sure if this counts as acceptable back-up or not, but....

The RPGA's Living Force campaign wraps up at the end of 2005 (well, technically, the last module for the campaign will premiere at Winter Fantasy in early 2006). Last year, the campaign staff began preparatory work for a new RPGA Star Wars campaign, to be started once Living Force ends.

Two weeks ago, on the Living Force Yahoo Group list, August Hahn (the campaign co-ordinator) indicated that work on the new campaign had been suspended until WotC decides what to do with the RPG license.

Now that is damning in my eyes. It's a shame they aren't even going to try and cash in on the renewed SW fervor that Episode 3 will bring. I guess all we can do is hope WotC doesn't give up on it in lieu of just supporting the minis line.
