Wizard/Binder

exile

First Post
I'm three sessions into a new D&D campaign in which I am playing a multiclass wizard/binder. I am second-level at present (with onelevel in each class) and already feeling the pain of not having full wizard spell progression. I ultimately plan to advance in the anima mage prestige class that allows advancement of wizard spellcasting and binder soul binding. I would value any suggetsion that you all might have regarding making this the most useful character possible.

I really hope your first level was in Binder and not Wizard! The skill points and hit points are significantly better.

Having built one of these for a game, I recommend the following:

1: Binder 1 -- Improved Binding
2: Wizard 1 -- [Scribe Scroll]
3: Wizard 2 -- Heighten Spell
4: Wizard 3
5: Anima Mage 1
6: Anima Mage 2 -- Craft Wondrous Item

Until you reach character level 4 (Binder 1 / Wizard 3), you play like you're just a Binder. You wear light armor, you use a shield, you attack with a mace or something. Use your spells as utility spells (identify, etc.), make some scrolls for combat (grease, enlarge person, ray of enfeeblement) but mostly use your Vestige abilities in combat. You can bind 1st and 2nd level Vestiges thanks to your Improved Binding feat.

If you're human, consider taking Heighten Spell as your 1st level bonus feat (there's no spellcasting requirement on metamagic feats, isn't that funny?) and taking Skilled Pact Making as your 3rd level feat.

For Wondrous Items, you're going to make a few Vestige Phylacteries and a nice set of Implements of Binding which you'll keep enhancing as you go up. You'll eventually want a lot of Vestige Phylacteries.

Cheers, -- N
