I thought I'd tap the board for a critique on this class for balance, suggestions for possible improvement, etc.
This class was created for our low-magic Norse/Rune themed campaign where magic is rare and I wanted a wizard who was geared towards a lower-magic setting without nerfing his overall power too badly. So now I went with creating a very, *very* flexible spellcasting class who, while he'll never seeing a Wish spell, is pretty convincing in battle none-the-less. Especially since he has a fair bit more martial capability and can cast multiple spells per round (at higher levels) or convert the extra spells towards metamagic boosts on another spell on the fly. So without futher ado...

I. Spells Known: As per wizard.
II. Spellcasting: You may cast whatever spell you know as desired so long as you have an open slot to do so.
III. Multicasting: A wizard can choose to cast multiple spells per round so long as the second spell is at least 2 spell levels lower than the highest you can cast. A 3rd spell per round can be cast so long as it is 4 spell levels lower than the highest you can cast. Naturally, you have to have slots available to do so.
- eg. A 5th level wizard can cast a 0-2nd level spell and a 0th level spell all in the same round.
- eg. A 10th level wizard can cast a 0-3rd level spell and a 0-1st level spell in the same round.
- eg. A 20th level wizard can cast a 0-5th level spell, a 0-3rd level spell and a 0-1st level spell all in the same round.
IIIa. Metamagic: Wizards can metamagic "on the fly" provided they have the feat. A wizard can choose to "burn" a Multicast spell towards empowering a metamagic feat for another spell. Each spell level is worth it's spell level +1 towards
the level of final spell cast. eg. A 0th level spell is worth 1 full spell level towards metamagicing another spell.
- eg. A 5th level wizard can opt to burn his additional 0th level spell/round towards using a metamagic feat on his primary 0-2nd level spell. As the 0th level only grants a +1 spell level bonus, the wizard could use Still Spell or Silent Spell on his primary spell but not one with a higher spell level requirement.
- eg. A 16th level wizard burning a 2nd level slot (his second spell, worth 3 spell levels) and a 0th level slot (his third spell, worth 1 slots) could Maximize and Extend a 4th level spell.
IV. Additional Spells: Wizards gain additional spells from high intelligence as per normal.
V. Spell DC: 10 + 1/2 Caster Level + Spell Level.
Note that permanent magic items cannot be created IMC, but there are a number of lost items left over from Ragnarok for PCs to discover. The wizard does have the option to create Runestones (aka. potion or scroll) however for portable magic.
Teleportation and spell-based flight are out - if you want to fly, a flying mount is your ticket to ride.
The wizard may seem to gain a whole horde of spells to cast per day but realize that items like wands, staves and such are extremely rare and certainly wouldn't be used willy-nilly. 0th level spells should see some useful combat additions IMC. Ray of Frost might see damage increases at higher levels for example.
Cheers,
A'koss.
