A bit more helpfully:

Spell Scroll (p. 200). Starting with its second sentence, the f irst paragraph now reads as follows: “If the spell is on your class’s spell list, you can read the scroll and cast its spell without providing any material components. Otherwise, the scroll is unintelligible. Casting the spell by reading the scroll requires the spell’s normal casting time. Once the spell is cast, the words on the scroll fade, and it crumbles to dust. If the casting is interrupted, the scroll is not lost.”
 

Only in 5e the fighter doesn't need arms and armor upgrades.

In theory, you are correct. In practice, it really sucks to fight things with resistance to non-magic attacks if you don't have magic weapons.

They weren't "needed" in OD&D either, and much like 5E the DM can change the requirements for needing them against certain monsters if he or she doesn't want to include them.

I agree.

But I also knowingly did not mention that, hoping you would not go for the easy point.

Since that is possibly the one exception to the rule: as long as you have a way to overcome magic resistance, everything else is pretty much gravy.

Sorry what's your point again?

My point is that the situation where adventures "need" to supply the party with more swords than scrolls, as it were, is not the same today with 5th edition than it was in the editions of yore.
 

Magic is pretty exciting to find. If rarity is an issue (and I assume the concern of magic item bloat is a problem if it's not rare), I'd make use of the variant option where some items do NOT recharge. Depends on a person's campaign tastes of course.
