Wizard PrC

Fellon

First Post
Greetings,
This is my first post in this forum

I'm playing D&D 3.0 for 7-8years now, and i usually play more or less specilized fighter
(fighter/dueler with an AC of 41 :) at 15th lvl or so
(fighter using a spiked chain with the improved trip and combat reflexes, and having a good time making attacks apr. 5-7 times per round at 6th lvl
These two are my best strict rule charcters, the rest are more or less fighters/monks/barbarians of no importance

So my question is im starting to play in a new game with a Dwarf wizard starting at 7th lvl. So i would like to know what PrC would you suggest (from 3.0 ed)?

I'm not sure you really need a prestige class for your 7th level wizard. Wizards are great just by themselves. And most PrC for them take the character in a certain direction. What kind of wizard are you playing? Specialist, something else? Etc, etc. Really need some more information to give you an idea of what would be good.

Well no i have no specialization (this will be my first session, then im joining an already on going game)

From the looks of thinks wizards are really amazing, i have a starting score of 16 to INT and i have increased it at 4th lvl to 17

Anyways may con is 16 + 2from Dwarf and +2 from Toad, that means an CON of 20, and total HP of 49 :)

As i have told i have no specialization, then i lake spells in all the groups, i was looking on the loremaster and while lvl'ing up there try to meat a elemental for the elemental servent PrC, maybe you have some better ideas?

Wait, Toad gives +2 con? In 3.5, it gives +3 hp, but I no longer have my 3.0 PHB. That sounds wrong...

I forget what elemental savant was like in 3.0, I just know it's really weak in 3.5 edition. In any case, that prestige class is best for soemone focused on evocations. Loremaster is a nice, albeit kinda generic prestige class option.

If you were in an evil campaign and focusing on necromancy, I would recommend the Pale Master prestige class (Tome and Blood). I recall that one being a lot of fun.

yep +2Con, thats why it is so popular :)

well i also like the necromancy :) but the pale master strips you 1/2 of the spell levels :( and almost all necromancy PrC do so

Not overly familiar with 3.0 PrC anymore. I know that the FR-PrC Incantatrix was pretty good for Wizards in 3.0 already. Mage of the Arcane Order (from Tome and Blood, I think) is also very nice.

Generally speaking, any PrC, that gives full advancement to your spellcasting ability and that does not have ridiculous entry requirements (aka prerequisites), is better than advancing as a Wizard beyond 5th level.

Geez guys, he's mentioned it in all of his posts. In 3.0, Toad gets +2 to Con, in 3.5 it switched to +3 hps.

In any case, since this is your first time playing a wizard I would keep it simple. Since you are starting out in mid-level instead of learning how to play a wizard through the levels, it will be more enjoyable for you. I think the choices you picked are good, I would go with Earth Elemental Savant. That seems to tie together with a dwarf nicely. Loremaster had some interesting abilities as well. While it would be a couple levels away, you could also start building up toward Archmage.

I would stay away from the Mage of the Arcane Order. While it looks cool to have all the spells from all the books, I found it to be a henderance. But, if I remember correctly, in the 3.0 version you can get a "credit-store" of spell slots. This is nice to build up during your traveling days.

A standard wizard is typically pretty fun. For a more complicated option, you could go wit Shadow Mage out of the Forgotten Realms Handbook.

Have fun.

thx Nebten

yep i think of taking the loremaster till i find an earth elemental and then start to level up that class.

What great magic usage combos can you suggest? (like explosive runes with Clairaudience/Clairvoyance. for nice usage over great distance)

are there some more?
