D&D 5E (2024) Wizard vs Sorcerer (a Campaign Experience)

PouC warlocks really giid initially. The pet does t scale well though. Gets worse every level over 5. Combos well with summon spells though.
I did notice that PotC is the only pact that doesn't have a higher-level invocation dedicated to it, unlike Blade and Tome. But I still think the familiar can be useful at higher levels, especially using Gaze of Two Minds to cast spells remotely. I'm sure my player will come up with interesting ways to use it.

Forgot that ability. One of your pets can also turn invisible.

High lvl tomelock eh high level bladelock isnt worth it imho play a Paladin instead

Investment of the Chain Master is pretty effective and requires POTC. Familiars are better late game if you get the Inspiring Leader Feat.

Also though with the new rules where ti only takes an action to summon they are pretty much always on tap. IF they get killed every single fight you still have one back for the next fight.

I find the Quasit to be very effective until late game with POTC and IOCM. They can open with Scare just about every fight and then if they hit with a melee attack it is auto poisoned. Psuedo Dragon is pretty good too.

The best familiar is the 2014 Sprite though with IOCM. Ranged attack that causes poison on a failed save and can put enemies unconscious. Since it uses arrows the sprite can use actions on turns she is not attacking to apply things like Purple Worm Poison or Wyvern Poison for some added kick to the next three attacks. The new Sprite is really nerfed though.

Are you coming it with summon undead? I haven't seen that combo yet.

I have done that at times yes. The Quasit can be Invisible and getting 2 attacks a turn (one using your action, one using your bonus action), potentially making 2 enemies poisoned for follow up with Summon Undead. They are pretty survivable with 25hps plus another 15 or so from Inspiring Leader and at will resistance to all damage as a reaction. Not saying they won't go down in combat, but enemies usually need to actively target them or try to down them.

The Pseudo Dragon has an advantage in that it does not use your action or bonus action at all to make its Poison Sting (it is not an attack), so they get to use an effective action with a good chance of knocking most enemies unconscious at will. The downside is it is usually once or twice a fight before they die due to their very low hit points and no invisibility.

Usually I play with either 1 familiar or primarily 1 familiar during a campaign for thematic reasons, but if you are willing to mix and match it is more effective - summon in a Bat when dealing with an invisible enemy, get an Imp when on that raid into a red dragon's lair, Sphinx of Wonder when dealing with an enemy Wizard etc.

Being able to cast rituals from a book is a very good wizard ability. It sounds boring on paper, but our warlock is struggling to have the needed rituals prepared/in their book of shadows.

I think it is different. The POTT Warlock has access to all 1st level rituals with a short rest because they can conjure a new book with different rituals. That is something the Wizard can't do, although the Wizard has more available immediately on tap.

The other thing you can do if you allow the 2014 Invocations is to use the 2014 Book of Ancient Secrets Invocation. If you do that you can copy 2 new rituals from your Book of Shadows into your Book of Ancient Secrets after every short rest. In a few down days you should have all the 1st level rituals in there.

Yes. Flexible. But sometimes waiting a short rest is annoying.

Yes. Or the old ritual caster feat.
I had a human rogue with that feat. Felt very strong even though our DM was really giving us a hard time finding rituals or gold to copy anything in those books.

While everyone can cast rituals now (a big buff for the ranger) the 2024 wizard now has niche protection for the higher level rituals without preparation ability.
