Firstly, yay for alliterating thread titles!
Secondly, someone over in the "Warforged cuisine" thread mentioned that warforged are like the black mages from FF9 they dont die per say, they just stop moving one day. This got my wheels turning.
What if, late in the last war perhaps in a hidden stronghold in Cyre there was an attempt at a sort of "second generation" warforged. Warforged that specialized in arcane spellcasting.
Maybe there were only one or two test runs before the Doom came to Cyre (I will be amazingly surprised if anyone gets that obscure literary reference) and the only other working models were in Cyre at the time. (potential quest) My mental image of these warforged is quite different from the standard. Still an amalagam of metal and wood parts but no arcane spell failure (strip down some of the armor bonus and perhaps have a feat chain that represents infusion of a metal that does not interfear with casting) However these warforged would be MUCH more human-like due to the requirements of spellcasting (five fingers required for proper somatic components, not in the rules but good flavor text) and are generally better made than thier soldier counterparts. I am also toying with the idea of these warforged having distinct sexes (another idea on that in a sec). Just FYI, because of the black mage influence my initial mental image was of a figure coverd in robes wearing a hat/hood/whatever with glowing eyes
.
About them having different sexes: another idea I have been kicking around for warforged is the "incarnate construct" spell from SS or perhaps a variant thereof (lower lv to represent warforgeds "living construct" type) . This could be a spell for warfarged who are on the opposite end of the scale from the lord of blades, those who wish to embrace thier living qualities. Ye gods there are just so many ways you could take this. And who better to discover it if not a spellcasting warforged?
So what do you guys think? Cool idea or needless fluff? "Jeez man you can like already do that with a normal warforged with only like a 5% spell faliure. God! freakin idiot" (okay this reference is easy
)
Also I was unsure as to which board to post this on so if I have posted here in error feel free to move this thread.
