Wizards for the Picky... namely me

First Post
I've always loved rogues and wizards, but I'm thinking for a good prestige class for a wizard.

I like the archmage, but I don't like getting all five levels, I just like a few of the high arcana, plus it takes a wizard till lv 15 before he can qualify, so I'm looking for a class that gives me some cool stuff until level 15 when I can get some high arcana.

My characters are always true neutral swaying towards good. I don't like them to be tied to deities, organizations or anything, so that kind of kicks out arcane devotee, shadow adept, and a lot of others. Some of the ones in tome in blood I just think are dumb, and some don't give spells every level or require too many prereques.

I used to like arcane trickster until the realization that it takes four levels of rogues, not three, and for some strange reason that annoys me.

Right now hes the best one, especially because the next campaign I'm going to be in starts at lv 25 so I don't have the lv 4 rogue qualms, this thread is mainly about campaigns that start at lv 10 or less.

I'd like a prestige class that gives +1 spells every level or almost every level.

If anyone has a prestige class (homebrewed or otherwise) that's good, can you please post it here

thanks!

oh yeah, a counterspelling class and a staff using class would be cool if anyone has one...

Just so you know, the earliest a wizard can become an archmage is 13th level. The prerequisites are ability to cast 7th level arcane spells, knowledge of 5th-level or higher spells from at least five schools. A wizard can easily do this at 13th level, to take 1st level of archmage at 14th character level.

As for other classes to take, I personally like the Mage-Killer from Magic of Faerun. I don't know if that fits your character, although it has good synergy with taking archmage later. Not to mention you get pretty good saves with it. Another potential class to take is Incantantrix, another from MoF.

Can't think of any others off the top of my head. Hope this is somewhat helpful.

The elemental savants from Tome and blood but you mentioned tome and blood already.

Plus how can 5 levels of Archmage be a waste. Master of Counterspelling, and Spell Power +1,+2,+3 (+6 total) to ALL DC's for spells can't be bad then you get a 5th one. Pick one, Master of Elements, Master of Shaping, Spell Like Ability, Arcane Fire. But what ever floats your boat I guess.

As for other books, Mage-Killer might be fun.
