wizards get just one spellbook?

um, excuse me, but you're not allowed to prove me wrong, ok? :p

I still think this passage should apply:

the wizard must have at least 1 hour of rest immediately prior to preparing her spells

but since that statement is in the paragraph regarding nightly rest, it could be argued otherwise.

wow...i'm a dork. thanks everyone for the reply! finally, when is it more useful to ready a counterspell than an actual spell that damages a mage? i mean if you fireball him while he's casting his spell don't you get the same effect (him losing his spell and it not being cast) assuming he fails his concentration check, which gets more likely the more damaging the spell is.
i suppose if he has SR or protection from elements and stuff like that it wouldn't be as good of an idea.

I've never found counterspelling useful. You have to forgo a regular action and ready an action to counterspell. Then you have to roll a spellcraft to see if you recognize the spell. Then you can counter it if you happen to have that same spell prepared. It seems best if you're on the defensive and can't risk them getting a spell off that might hurt you. Or you could be negating the enemy mage so your fighter friends can pummle him ininturrupted.
