Wizards - online survey problems

He might want to know that the sweepstakes are still being offered to australians as of five minutes ago. And frankly I'll be annoyed if I'm disqualified on the basis of being non-us, when nothing in the survey or sweepstakes offering suggested that was a problem.

First page: "All US residents who complete our survey will be entered into a Grand Prize Drawing to win a prize package of Dungeons & Dragons products."

In bold type, no less. (And that's been there since I first looked at the survey).

Cheers!

Interesting, I'm sure this is exactly the same questionaire I filled out about a year before 3rd edition came out.

A'koss.

G'day fellow gaming brethren both US and non,

Sounds to me like all us non-US gamers need to switch RPGs - hey guys over at White Wolf, how's your international relations reputation? The assertion that they can't poll non-US gamers is crap, the fact is they can't be bothered doing it. I keep having it pointed out to me that the US is where the market share is, let's see how they fare if all the non-US gamers turn around and walk away from WoTC products - have at your market share then chumps.

I'm in Australia and I've been getting short changed by WoTC for years, why should I expect it to change any time soon? We couldn't use their online store but could buy from other online retailers based in the US. We can't enter their competitions but other US based RPG companies allow non-US residents to participate in their competitions. The RPGA was less than useful for us for years. Hey WoTC, why don't you try improving your relationship with the international community, you might find that your market share internationally actually improves. How about a competition specific to the Asia/Pacific region etc - it's not hard to make an effort to make all your customers happy and the returns usually more than justify the effort and expense.

Putting 2nd and previous editions aside I have purchased every core D&D, Realms and Eberron product that has been released since the advent of 3.0 and most of the D20Modern, and Star Wars range, throw in a few hundred bucks worth of WoTC mini's and the odd single release product (Wheel of Time etc) and all this amounts to my opinion with the bean counters at WoTC being worth absolutely nothing. WoTC seem intent on making two classes of gamer.

This is not a US bash so please don't take it as one.

Have a good day all no matter where in the world you are (hey hold on, can I actually say that on this Board? Yep, just checked, it's only the WoTC boards that find it too difficult to accomodate the ravings and rantings of us internationals.) ;-P>

Cheers

Doh! I was going off what I read on the last page. The bit that said "do you want to be entered into...". The one AFTER I put in my country.

I say yes, hand over my email, then come here and someone says "By the way, if you're not US you can't win".

So why'd they ask for my email then?

Well, it looks like the long time gamer, myself, is not what they want for the Advisory Panel. The newest member of our group, playing for 6 months, owns only the PH, was invited to join and did.

Dang it!

No, I don't think that's it. I've been playing for 13 years (...not all of that, but still...), and got selected.

It might just be the luck of the draw.

Because it was broken.
:p

I got asked about lots of stuff - I'm special - and then I ranted about the editing.

Just so you know, the short form for why the sweepstakes would also be limited to U.S. Residents only is that like the questionnaire laws, the sweepstakes laws also vary really dramatically from country to country. Hiring a hundreds-of-dollars-per-hour international law specialist so you can give away a couple hundred dollars worth of books would be pretty insane for a company like WotC. (I've seen this whole rigamarole before with other companies and products.)

I'm curious how many books the people who got asked to join own. My wife and I both answered the survey, she was asked to join and a whole lot of other question, but since she considers the majority of the books mine she didn't list them. Makes me wonder if they only asked people to join who buy fewer products (which makes sense, since they are problably doing this to increase sales, figuring those who already buy a lot of products will keep buying them, so no need to worry about them). Just curious.

I've helped write both focus group recruitment documents and telephone surveys. There's probably a whol-e bunch of criteria that they are looking for. They might have it broken down by age (100 respondants each from 18-24, 25-29, 30-35, 36-45 etc) length of time playing D&D (100 respondants each from less than 1 year, 1-2 years, 3-5, 6-10 etc) number of books owned (less than 3, >3<6, >6<10 etc). There might also be compound criteria - 20 respondants from each of the age ranges above who've played less than 1 year, 1-2 years, 3-5 etc.

Surveys are fun :)
