Wizards - online survey problems

G'day fellow gaming brethren both US and non,

Sounds to me like all us non-US gamers need to switch RPGs - hey guys over at White Wolf, how's your international relations reputation? The assertion that they can't poll non-US gamers is crap, the fact is they can't be bothered doing it. I keep having it pointed out to me that the US is where the market share is, let's see how they fare if all the non-US gamers turn around and walk away from WoTC products - have at your market share then chumps.

Heh have you actually looked into international privacy policy? I'm not suprised WotC decided to not survey people outside of the United States. As much as we'd like to think our opinions count, there is a point where surveying us becomes too much work for too little gain, especially when:

  • Our results are probably not going to differ significantly from those of americans
  • Every survey would have to be tailored for the country it is being taken in and handled differently based on local privacy laws.

It's not just survey results - any personal data held by a company is subject to severe export restrictions, especially in some parts of the world like Europe. Just talk to any airline that flies from Europe to America - the American government wants detailed information on each passenger, while the European governments don't want that information shared for privacy reasons.

Not that every country in the word is as careful with it's citizen's data - Australia may be more permissive. But it's still understandable that WotC don't want to open pandora's box. How much money would they have to develop 4e if they were fighting lawsuits from all over the world?

However, in its current format it is very suspicious indeed.

Merric, is this paranoia I smell? Are you on the run from shadowy government organizations that don't "officially exist"? :D Just kidding.

Surveys typically ask this sort of thing, at least in my experience. As far as asking where I live, this is why I always keep a post office box, and never give my street address... hmmm...maybe that paranoia smell is coming from me...

Seriously, don't worry about it. There was no place for a phone number, so telemarketers won't be a hassle. Just sit back and wait for them to pick you as a winner! That's what I'm doing... (crosses fingers)

Especially when there is only ONE actual question on the survey. (What do you think of D&D?) That makes me very suspicious indeed.

Why so much paranoia and suspicion about an innocent question? Anyway, thanks for the link...I filled out the survey :)

how many times can you enter?

i'm thinking of opening a gmail, hotmail, yahoo, msn, and other freemail account just to cram the ballot box.
