A friend of mine is currently serving over in Bosnia with the US National Guard. He sent me the following e-mail that I thought perhaps others might be interested in reading...
So one of the fellows over here with me was talking role-playing with me. He had discovered that there was actually a decent number of RPers around, but I was the only person in the entire task force to bring any materials. So he decided to send to Wizards of the Coast explaining the situation and asking them if they could send a price list, and if a bulk purchase could recieve a discount. WotC sent back a note saying they thought they could arrange something...
Yesterday he recieved 4 packages in the mail. 30 copies of the Players Guide for D&D3e, 30 copies of the DM guide, 30 Copies of the Monster Compendium, 4 copies of the Monster Compendium II, 30 or so modules, plus additional stuff...
And all they want in exchange is a photo of some of us with the stuff.
We plan to do one better and give them several photos and a wooden sword (they sell them as souveniers here) with our signatures and a note of appreciation.
Anyway, since I am the only currently experienced GM/DM I have been drafted to run a D&D3e campeign (I'm desperately reading through the Players Guide at the moment). We have one other experienced DM, but he hasn't touched dice (or D&D) in 10 years... We'll probably split the interested folk between us. Even though I've never been interested in doing a module, I plan to use a module for this one! A scratch campaign at short notice with an unfamiliar system? Not happening...
We Bosnia Players are floored.
Edit: Merged another thread together and warped the title a bit to let everyone know. --Dinkeldog
