It's the computer-geek equivalent of how some monkeys establish dominance. I was guilty of it in chat rooms when I got my brand-spankin' new P166 with 32MB (!!!) of RAM and my 6MB (!!!!!!!) Voodoo 1 card (Canopus ruled when they made consumer-level products).

I have enough memory, sufficient hard drive space, a good enough video card, but my processor is 200 MHz too slow to meet the minimum specs.

Well I have a P3 866, with a Radeon 9000, and 512 mb of RAM. I haven't gotten to far yet and while there is some hiccupping, it’s nothing that makes it unplayable (not even close so far). I do have the graphical setting all the way down (except for the textures).

You can get a NICE motherboard and processor for less than $150.

AMD that is, Pentiums aren't worth the money and AMDs are better suited for gaming anyway.

Not to turn this into a religious debate about processors, but newer Pentiums have done quite well against AMDs.
The problem with buying a new mobo/proc now is that you probably have PC133 RAM (or maybe even PC100, depending on age). Newer mobos use DDR RAM, so you gotta buy new RAM too, and at that point you may as well just look into buying a new system, when you're already replacing half of it.

In your opinion, of course. I am very happy with my 2.8 Ghz P4. It is better suited for gaming than any 32 bit AMD CPU. Tom's got my back on this one...
