Words of Wisdom for those new to gaming

Okay I have had some rest so here a few more that come to mind.

- Don't eat all of the chips. Share with the others. It's polite.

- Don't hide your dice rolls. make sure the DM can see the result.

- Keeping track of encumbrance is annoying and is more math than it's worth. Just play it by ear.

- Don't dress up. Please I beg you, do not dress up in costume!!

- Nothing ever, ever, ever goes exactly as planned. Roll with the punches.

I'll come up with a few more...I swear.

16) "Have fun stormin' the castle!" Take risks, even though for your character to live, "it'll take a miracle."

This is really important to me - every game I've played in with a "do or die" attitude has been more fun (for me) than the over-cautious planning style of game. I appreciate it's not for everyone, but c'mon, just once in a while - KICK IN THE DOOR AND TAKE SOME NAMES!

Yeah, agreed 100%. :D

  • Be prepared - if you're playing a summoning/wildshaping druid, you have some homework to do between sessions. Do it.
  • Don't make other people wait for you.
  • Take a bit of time to do things like a campaign journal or treasure tracking book keeping. Your DM will love you for it.
  • Always try to find a way to say yes.
  • While any form of random generation is acceptable, rock paper scissors is LARPing and will get you pelted with dice. :)
  • Adding things to your character sheet without running it past your DM first is NEVER ok.

- Sometimes a dead end is just a dead end.

- When creating a campaign, don't detail everything, take it slow and let it build.

- You will loose dice. Accept it.

- Stop quoting the Simpsons, Family Guy, Lord of the Rings, Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail, South Park, or any other show that comes to mind just so you can prove that you remembered some obscure line from the show when the DM introduces a new character, or scene. It gets old....fast.

-Don't piss off the tavern owner.
-Please shower. It's good for everyone.
-Do not eat greasy food and then touch the DM's books...grrrr.

Making a decent choice quickly is more important than making the perfect choice in 5 minutes. Your character only has a split second to do something, so is probably not always going to do the right thing.
