Worlds Largest City on Amazon

I think it is very poor form that there is no table of contents or index in the book. There is no excuse for a book that size not to have one.

Yeah, this is definitely a very bad point to the WLC.

Ptolus sets the bar nice and high for a large city book - the page # references on each page are very helpful.

Mine was shipped a week ago, so it should arrive next week some time I guess. Like others here, I had it on order for quite some time before it was shipped. I'm quite looking forward to seeing it - though having no contents or index is bad. How on earth are you supposed to find information without either of these? It should have a list of contents at the very minimum IMO.

I really don't understand the thought process behind not having at least a contents page in a 600 page book that is not designed to be read like a novel.

I don't own the book so I can't comment as to what other things they have to help you to find the page that you're after but it just seems like a very strange decision to exclude it.

They do have some references to locations (such as "See A15"), but no page numbers. Navigation will not be easy.

I look at it as a 700-page city adventures idea book, but it is not usbale to a DM "out of the box". You can't just open it to a location and have everything you need to run that encounter right there for you (unless it refers to a creature in the Monster Manual).

I saw both this and Ptolus last week in my flgs. It's amusing that the World's Largest City is the smaller book.

Honestly, why would anyone buy this instead of Ptolus? It isn't much cheaper and is lower quality.

Are Amazon and Buy.com selling Ptolus at a discount? Last I heard, they were not.

I don't tend to find Monte's imagination in line with mine, so I'm going to shy away from Ptolus, although I might pick up some of the less-expensive supplementary material.

That being said, I'm not buying WLC either.
