Worldwide Dungeons & Dragons Game Day 2007

It's on a saturday I have off, so if my girlfriend is working, I'm gonna go. Hopefully I can shotgun playing the oddball character.

If I may: how many encounters are there? And how do they break down into combats, role-playing (that is, creatures that the party are expected not to slaughter immediately), traps and puzzles?
There are 5 encounters, all are combat-oriented. No traps or puzzles. Basically, you've got a hackfest here.

My two sons and their friends are playing. I may volunteer to run some DDM/Delve events. I may play later with some grown ups or I may play with the kids. I'll definitely go to the Source and buy stuff, and then buy more stuff at Dreamers. It is a great event. If you've gone to a DDM pre-release, and run into a lot of kids, I'm shocked, that is not the normal demographic for DDM.

This is a great event.

I disagree that it is not an acquisition event, many of the players I've seen at the three stores I frequent in Mpls are new/newer.

Ah, that would explain the lack of a single-classed Rogue.

Nothing wrong with hackfests, as such. Although they may not show off the game in the best possible light. (After all, combat is one of the things MMORPGs do really well, so if that's what D&D does, why play the latter rather than the former?)

Yep. And it's good to see that WotC are gradually learning the lessons of previous years, and so improving the event.

I would be very surprised if it wasn't about acquisition, or at least re-acquisition. WotC are a business, after all, and can be expected therefore to seek the best return on their investment. I can't fault them for that, of course.

Saw the kit today at the store where I'll be running it. I looked at it while I was running a Mechwarrior event.

While the adventure may not heavy in roleplay opportunities, the characters have a nice backstory tying them together and giving them reasons to be here. There are plenty of intra-party roleplaying opportunities.

The character kits are great. Give each player a box and watch as they explore the cool things inside.

No pregen character sheets so now I have to download and print off the ones online.
The sheets are actually in the box with the character miniatures, dice, etc. They are quite small (about half a typical sheet of paper).
