Ok I am ripping off the "Best" poll to make a "Worst". I think the issue is quite relevant thou.

Best 5th party Member poll

Given a standard 4 person party composed of a fighter, cleric, rogue and wizard, which class do you think generally makes for the WORST "5th PC" addition to the group? Feel free to explain why you think so.

Easy, another rogue focusing on the same skills as the other rogue. Two rogues can complement each other if they take different skill sets. This is heightened in badness if the skill sets involved are charisma based. Who needs two information gatherers?

OTOH, a Commoner wouldn't be too useful either.

Definetly the monk.

Why? Because they don't add anything unique, or even a real good number of hip points to defend the party with. Add to that the just weird abilities they have that only appear powerful, and that they don't have the feel of western fantasy ... definetly the monk.

At least the bard would give everyone else a +1 to hit.

Hmmm... I agree with Eolin that the monk is probably the least desirable choice overall. The bard and the ranger are probably the next least desirable choices. But I don't think that having 2 rogues is necessarily a bad idea. We ran a game like that, albeit in a city setting, and that sneak attack damage adds up quick! That and you can double up on many of the important skill checks - where one fails, the other may succeed. Anything to improve the odds is not a bad thing...

Cheers,

A'koss.

It's a tough call, but I'm voting for Monk. I love that show with that crazy obsessive, compulsive detective. Wait...that's not what this is about....

But I still vote for the Monk. While he is quick and has unique abilities, they just don't seem to compliment as well as the other classes. I suppose I could have cast my vote for a second rogue. A second rogue would simply be backup, and not really bring anything new to the group.

I have never liked monks. I am a die-hard Tolkien-ite, I guess, or at least I like Euro-Fantasy the best. I don't think monks fit in with that at all, and it bothers me. I guess I'm small minded. Oh and they suck.

The monk is extremely limited in use. The only thing he excels at is mage-killing, which means that most of the time he won't see much use.

I would agree with the Monk being the least useful fifth party member. He brings nothing to the table the other four characters cannot handle by themselves.
