Worst...Idea...Ever

Which is less awkward, yes, but I've always gotten the impression that it's also underpowered.
I house-ruled the turning feats to suit the variant--there's nothing underpowered about a widened, empowered, quickened turn undead.

10th-level cleric: 60' radius 15d6 positive energy burst as a free action!

Is it technically a fear effect?
Nope. If it was, undead would be immune to it :)

Changing turning won't underpower clerics no matter how much turning is weakened. Remember that undead didn't take turning into effect for the CR calculations.

The thing that makes you want to hop up and down and shout "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING??"
For me, it's definitely the economics, escpecially the prices and costs of magic and bildings (castles, etc.). They look so stupid, so dumb, so idiotic, so nonsense... Ah... :(

Historically, it galls me that Psionics are treated as an add on, and up until 3/3.5Ed, were not done in a way that resembled the other stuff in the game- and sometimes it really showed in the balance.

Either make Psionics part of the Core rules or drop them.

Personally, I like 'em, but because they aren't Core, they are usually disallowed. Outside of a short DarkSun campaign, I have only been allowed to play 1 psionic PC since 1978 becase of this.

I didn't know that, but I'm not worried about Clerics being underpowered, just that ability. IMO, Cleric's aren't overpowered because of their turning ability, it's the d8 HD, med BAB, and full casting that does it.

The elves' collection of odd immunities (such as ghoul paralysis, and sleep and dream), and their stupid trance thing.

Putting non-FR specific monsters in Monsters of Faerun. Oooh, this one burns me- get off my firenewt, bullywug, abishai, etc! Put 'em back in the 'core pool' where they belong!

I've got three:

1) Undead elementals. Dumber than a sack of hammers.

2) Undead outsiders. The retarded brothers of that sack of hammers.

3) Reasonless cosmology changes done in the name of simplification. It's like leveling a city, nerve gassing the inhabitants, and salting the earth to 'liberate' the place.

Completely changing the reach of the astral counter to its theme, nerfing the ethereal, removing the para and quasielemental planes etc. Lovely. Great job. This improved the game how?

Clerics in Basic D&D not getting spells until 2nd level. You start the game as a character that is like a Fighter, but with worse hit points and a sub-par weapons selection, and undead turning. If you ever earned 2nd level, then you were rewarded with spells.

Dwarves not being allowed to be wizards before 3e. Despite being known for refining highly magical metals like mithril and adamantine, and being responsible for the creation of magical swords and armors, dwarves are depicted as an anti-magical race who for decades of D&D could never, ever learn even a cantrip.

Earlier edition hit point rules. 1d10 for a fighter, not guaranteed max at first level, you could be unlucky and even have a fighter with 1 Hit point, and dies when he hits 0 HP (-10 was an optional rule). Combine that with housecats who do 1d4 points of damage with a claw and you get fluffy who can kill Bruce the Fighter with ease.

The 3.0 illustration of the Blackguard in the dmg.

3.0 Haste totally ignoring the previous editions & creating a monster spell.

The original cavalier "balanced" by "roleplaying restrictions."

Animated shield.

Any elf variant beyond the 1st edition lot.

Halfbreeds.

Lidda smoking a joint.

The default paladin; built for melee & dumping on dex.

Mercurial greatsword/anything.

Wielding 2 handed weapons while mounted; it should incurr similar penalties to mounted archery.

Retro-punk looking armour.

Not making caster level stack within the core rules.

2nd editions proliferation of different rules to cover the same issue, just look how fire giants immunity to fire is different to the fire elemental's immunity.

The rugby is starting but I'll be back with plenty more.
