Worst Stat Rolls You Have Seen

I once had to roll six times before I got a character that wasn't considered hopeless by the PHB.

Part of the reason why our group now uses point-buy.

I don't know about worst stats, but the most schitzoid set I ever rolled was last weekend. My tabletop PC had been turned to stone, and I figured it might be useful to have a backup PC ready, so I tossed the dice via our normal method. First set was pretty decent.

Second set started out excellent - with an 18.
Next roll was looking crazy good - another 18.
Third roll, a 9. Okay, I can live with a 9 with two 18s.
Fourth roll, a third 18, and I'm thinking of ways to kill off my PC to use something built with these stats.
Fifth roll, 6. Maybe not, but if the last roll is okay, I can just play a race against type (i.e. put the 18 where I'd get a +2, and a 6 where I get a +2) and apply my level up bonuses to kill off penalties.
Sixth roll, another 6. Nope, not using this set after all.

And the third set was just bad.

While it isn't a stat roll, I saw a friend roll 48d6 and not score a single six. It was in Shadowrun with a 12 die pool and karma points spent for re-rolls.

Lowest I have seen:

Is from a Guy I used to game with. His low-rolling was legendary.

He once went 54 straight D20 rolls (we counted) with no roll in Double Digits (if it was an Attack) & 32 rolls Above a 15 on Skill Checks (2nd Ed where skill checks needed to be low).

His low point:

Rolled a First Ed character off 3D6, no re-rolls:

Four 3's, One 4, One 5.

He normally averaged around a 10 on 4d6, re-roll 1's Once.

They guy had the touch of Death vs Dice.

I am about to start a campaign with a rogue, that has the following stats:

Str 9
Dex 9
Con 14
Int 15
Wis 6
Cha 13

Possibly the worst character ever, that doesnt qualify for a reroll. Point Buy Value: 18.

Best part: One of the other PC's rolled: 17, 16, 15, 13, 11, 10.

My current plan: spend every fight in total defense with combat expertise maxed, and hide behind the other PC.

18, 18, 18, 9, 6, 6 is bad, eh? hmmm....

I said it was schitzoid, not bad (though I'd prefer to play a character with more balanced stats, and might seek out an oddball race with major stat modifiers); the third set I rolled that day was bad (best score was a 13, only one other above 10).

So you did, sorry about that. I'd prefer more balanced set myself, though your second set would be an interesting challenge. That 3rd set didn't sound good at all... :\

Well, I have seen such a wide variety of stats rolled that now when I DM I prefer to encourage point buy if the players go for it.

I have had a player that would openly let others use the 4d6 he used for stat rolling (3e, drop the lowest). In anyone else's hands, normal dice (or low), in his the character stats would end up 55 points or higher.

I also had a player (1e/2e hybrid) that rolled so badly the players at the table literally rolled character stats for him. During character creation I don't think he ever had a d6 come up higher than a 4, and 4's were rare. I don't recall the exact numbers but I believe the lowest (and we used 4d6 drop the lowest then too) character had nothing above a 6, I mean it was so bad that it was the deciding factor in everyone else (6 other players) rolling 4d6 each (drop the lowest) and having him take those stats. The odds against rolling like he did for stats would have to be astronomical. Fortunately, d20's treated him better. Come to think of it, I think d6s always treated him poorly for damage too.

Now the best I have EVER seen was when my boys wanted to start learning to play. My younger son (4d6 drop the lowest) rolled 4 18's in a row followed by 2 17's, one of the 18's was actually 4 6's. Then he got very angry because I was "laughing at him." He calmed down when I explained that I was laughing because he made such a GREAT character. I let him play it for a bit, being barely 6 and not understanding the rules well, the good stats were a bit of a life-saver.

That's pretty bad. What sort of things did he try to "break the bad luck"?

We've had a bit of a low rolling seat lately. The guy that used to sit in it used to roll so badly that everyone on the table had noticed how awful his rolls were. Unfortunately he was a Sorcerer with lots of Ranged Touch Attack spells. It doesn't matter that you only need to hit AC 12 if you keep rolling 2's and 3's.

He is no longer with the group and one of the other players decided to sit in his seat. During the first session he rolled 2 natural 1's for attack rolls and then managed to fail the DC 10 Dex check both times in order to keep hold of his weapon. He didn't roll particularly well for a lot of his other rolls either. From memory he didn't roll as badly last session but it wasn't much better. The group thinks that the chair is now cursed!
