Slight derail: Using a yellow font to write may be a great blow for differentiating yourself from the other posters, but there is more than one message board theme here. For those of us using the plain gray/white one so as to disguise what sort of message board we're viewing here at work (there are work-related boards that look like this), yellow posts = invisible and thus = skipped.

For the record, Kolja is male. Ms. Kestrel and Ms. Clarke-Wilkes are obviously not.

Um, yeah.

Some female authors have put out some great stuff. Like Slayers d20.

That said, the only books I happen to know Kestrel wrote on the top of my head put me off in one way or another. Gender of the author is not something I'll bank on one way or the other. Track record, OTOH...

Edit: Okay, maybe I am being a bit harsh. While she did design for Planar Handbook (which I feel very let down by), MMIII, and BoEF, I notice she contributed to Draconomicon and Book of Challenges, both books that are on my "frequent use" shelf.

Hmmm... but I notice her older credits are her better ones...

Yeah, that's exactly it for me. I'm no fan of Kestrel's (the others I don't know enough about).

In regards to the authors of Races of the Dragon please allow me to quote from the catalog further:
Gwendolyn F.M. Kestrel works for Wizards of the Coast, Inc. as a game designer. Her previous design credits include Races of Eberron, Monster Manual III, and Underdark role playing games.

Jennifer Clarke Wilkes is an editor for Wizards of the Coast, Inc. She works primarily on the Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures line but has edited various roleplaying game books. She co-authored Savage Species and Sandstorm.

Kolja Raven Liquette is best known for authoring The Waking Lands web site. He has also published articles in Dragon Magazine. His previous publishing credits include Weapons of Legacy.

About Powers of Faerûn: Sounds like a good book.

Seems that I have been neither completely wring, nor completely right about it: I didn't think that the power in the name referred to powerful, about epic characters, but it does, although not necessarily epic.

Neither is it about the deities and specialty priests, but it will contain info about founding temples and the like.

I think this will be very useful, as it will give you advice on that part of a high-leveled characters power that isn't tied to the game mechanics or his level. How to be a big crime lord, high priest of a temple, and so on. Probably a bit like Way of the Daimyo.

Thank you for stepping in Michelle. You too DungeonmasterCal. I guess "Kolja" is too foreign a name to be recognized as male. For the record, Kolja is short for "Nikolai" (much like Bill is short for "William").

Crimson_Manticore has already deleted his post, so I won't belabor this point any more than that. :)

That said, when I was given my choice of assignments, I jumped at this one ... precisely to write about kobolds. :D

Suffice to say, my treatment of kobolds is anything but "cutesy". :]

While Gwendolyn (the project boss for Races of the Dragon) is an undeniable "Fae" specialist, she can write a gritty turn of phrase like the best of them.

I'm so envious, I can't even see straight. ;)

Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled to have worked on the Tome of Magic. It's just that I love kobolds with a passion that probably borders on the unhealthy, and I'd have loved to be the one to write 'em up.

Very much looking forward to seeing what you've done with the little bastards. :D

And I have just been sold on this book.

Kobolds = Must Buy.
