WotC 2011 Fall Catalog

So if the cost of plastic and that was a determining factor in the demise of DDM, how come they're still doing the Axis & Allies minis?

Because the A&A minis area still profitable? I really don't see what other answer there could be here.

A deck of 22 cards representing the Deck of Many Things

Dang - I would buy this by itself. Not too interested in buying an entire boxed adventure just to get this though.

No, it was cost of plastic + sales. As the prices for DDM increased, sales decreased. Clearly Axis & Allis minis have been selling better. I doubt Wizards would continue to produce them if they haven't maintained profitability.

I also imagine making and selling s 'set' set as opposed to random minis is a lot easier to predict sales and production expenses.

I imagine painting added a lot of the cost, much more than the plastic costs.

Book of Vile Darkness a D&D Supplement by Robert J. Schwalb

The Book of Vile Darkness has existed since the dawn of the Dungeons & Dragons game, but only the most indomitable minds dare to look upon the malevolent thoughts and forbidden secrets bound therein!

In addition to showcasing characters and locations featured in the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons: The Book of Vile Darkness SyFy Original Movie, this roleplaying game product game product is intended for Dungeon Masters looking to broaden their campaigns to include dark subject matter and truly evil threats. It features a detailed look at the nature of evil and the complex challenge of confronting the many dilemmas found within the deepest shadows.

Awesome = Schwalb being the author for this one.
Do Not Want = direct SyFy movie tie-in.

Actually, this movie is more the property of Silver Pictures than SyFy Channel, just like the two previous movies. SyFy simply is buying the "rights" to air the movie first.
You've seen the other two D&D movies, right? It's not exactly confidence-inspiring.

The second one was better, at least, because it didn't try to be something that it's not, but they were still both bad. I actually wasted my money on seeing the first one in the theatre.

I actually own them. Don't despise me too much. :p

I'll try not to hold it against you, fellow Nilbog. ;)

I own the first one and saw it twice in the theater :o However I haven't seen the second.

As far as the products go, I still can't wait for Gardmore Abbey. An adventure set about the Deck of Many Things? Man I hope WotC doesn't mess it up. In middle school we would sit down for hours with characters and just draw from our index card Deck of Many Things. I can't wait for this to come out.

I just ordered the Castle Ravenloft game and we are set to give it a try instead of our normal session next week. If it is as good as the reviews, I'll probably pick up the next two.

I am also cautiously optimistic about this one. I've had times, both good and bad, with the Deck. It's one of those transformative D&D experiences.

I've enjoyed it so far; played a handful of times. It doesn't take long to play or set up, so you might be able to go through a few times in a typical D&D session worth of time.

I like complicated board games, like Arkham Horror (I have all the expansions), and this is similarly fun, but much quicker to set up and play. Arkham Horror will basically eat an entire evening, whereas this you can play if you have an hour or two to kill.

I look forward to Wrath of Ashardalon, but I will probably pass on Legend of Drizzt.
