WOTC books released after BO9S

I'm looking at getting some new stuff so:

Can someone list the 3E WOTC books released right AFTER Book of 9 Swords, along with a
line or two detailing whether they are any good?

I only own the core MM. I'm thinking of getting another, which is the best? I was thinking mm5, since its supposed to be an influence on 4E, but I've heard great things about mm4 as well. Which is better?

2007-12 Elder Evils

2008-01 Wizards Presents: Worlds and Monsters

Of the listed above, my favorite was MMV (best monster book from Wizards since the Fiend Folio), with Complete Scoundrel and Mage and Magic Item Compendium also being pretty damn good. If adventures are your thing, go for Expedition to the Ruins of Castle Greyhawk. It's old-school fun of the first caliber.

Demiurge out.

I think MM3 is the best sequel, personally. I think I remember what you're talking about with MM5, it had stats for some creatures from Desert of Desolation (the miniatures set), which were in turn supposed to be a preview of 4E. I ended up getting off the plasticrack before Desert of Desolation, so I don't know how much of a preview it actually was. I suspect the preview was wholly visual, for instance the hideous new sphinx. In any case, MM5 is not notably different from MM4 and some of the feature monsters like the mind flayers of Thoon do not seem to be coloring 4E at all. If you want a preview monster book I think Worlds and Monsters is the closest you're going to find.

MM4 was very unpopular, I'm surprised you've heard great things about it. There were far fewer monsters in it than MM3, and a significant portion of them were either the spawn of tiamat or monsters with class levels. Most people seem to consider this a waste of space.

I also think MM3 was the best MM besides the main book. IV was HORRIBLE. Didn't get V, as I had a very strong feeling 4e was coming, and I immediately quit buying d20 books.

Bold-faced those I really liked, while the ones in italic are not worth buying (IMO, ofc)

Hi,

I also liked MMV which has some cool monsters in it; Elder Evils, Complete Mage and Magic Item Compendium are good too. However, the best of these books, IMHO, is Fiendish Codex II Tyrants of the Nine Hells, full of infernal badness!

Cheers

I only own a few of those books in the list but I really like Complete Mage and the Magic Item Compendium. Complete Mage's reserve feats are a really nice addition to the game (I expect we'll see more of things like that in 4e. Magic Item Compendium introduces a lot of lower cost magic items and many which are only usable X times per day. That another thing which I think we might see more of in 4e.

I own a couple of others but I haven't really used them/read them enough to really say if they are worth getting or not.

I do plan on getting the Rules Compendium and Exemplars of Evil books soon. I don't know how much either of those books will tell you about 4e though.

Complete Mage: Does it offer any new base classes? What about complete champion? Whats that about?

Thanks for the replies btw, very helpful. I'm considering getting expedition to undermountian just for old school hack and slash goodness. (I have ravenloft, but its undead only. I want veriety).

Also, i hear Drow of the Underdark has some really good art.

No, it doesn't offer new base classes. It has new alternate class features ala PHB II if you want something a little different. Other than that, it's a typical splat book along the lines of the others in the Complete series. Much like Champion which is for divine characters, and offers, divine quests, feats, prestige classes, details on religion, etc.
