I honestly do think Spelljammer would showcase the current edition rules wonderfully, but it would require the addition of another ruleset for space combat (horrifically, that would probably be the one from d20 Future :( ).

I'd have to go with Eberron.

Uhm Scarred Lands does that too. No over powered NPCs, very few good organizations, the background is fun and can enrich a character. Overall the fun is there without the entire "blandness" either.

I absolutely loved Scarred Lands -- it was very setting rich and showcased the 3.0 rules well. Unfortunately for me, we played 3.5 and as a newlywed with a demanding job the 3.0 to 3.5 conversions were a bit lengthy... oh and one of my previous players borrowed 3-4 of my books and disappeared off the face of the earth. :( I REALLY wish it was still supported by S&S, or sold to another publisher that would support it.

FR is just tooooo power-magic for me, Eberron is very "flavor-of-the-week", and GR is too vanilla. Hmmmmmmm. I'd choose the CSIO as a mini-setting -- with CLOSE 2nd to Freeport. I like classic fantasy, with mid-magic power and some monstrous monsters. OK.... Scarred Lands it is.

Yeah, I just about hit myself when I realized I'd left Kalamar off the list--but by then, we'd already gotten so many responses, it would've thrown things way out of whack to ask a moderator to add it in. :\

Guess we'll have to settle for people--like you--bringing it up. :)

I beleive the Mods cannot edit polls. Polls should definitely be thought out very thoroughly before they are posted. I've faild to to that a few times.

Being the hard-core professional contrarian that I am ...

... none. The best fit to the D&D game hasn't been written. You want a coherent world, a world that fits together and makes sense. An organic world, not something slapped together by tossing tropes and memes at a wall to see what sticks. You want to start anew.

Not what you wanted to hear? Suffer. You wanted my honest opinion, I'm giving you my honest opinion. You want the setting that fits D&D best you'll have to write it. Thanks for coming by, make the check out to "Alan Kellogg".

When the available options won't work, create others.

Cat,

Working on it! :)

MM,

Uhm don't knock something until it's been done. IMHO, a revised Scarred Lands CAN showcase the best of ALL the D&D/d20 rules out there.

I'm not interesting in showcasing the rules, I'm interesting in showcasing play. What makes D&D D&D?

Riiight...

Define THAT then. Cause obviously I must be missing something when I think of "play", Scarred Lands highlights that too. But then as I've said before, I'm kind of biased.

Nightfall,

Okay, three questions regarding Scarred Lands:

What do you do?
How do you do it?
What is the feel?

In other words ...

Does it play like D&D? Does it feel like D&D? You can have the play without the feel, or the feel without the play after all.

I wonder if Nightfall will reply to this entry in the thread by suggesting Scarred Lands?

Is the Pope German?

MM,

Clarification: what do I do mean the setting, or me personally?

Also what IS D&D? I mean seriously, is there like a definitive answer to this?
