WotC "dumbs-down" stuff? What's bad with it?

That's how I'm defining failure. The older versions never had these kinds of problems, except maybe 2e toward the end.

Snort. Yeah, those editions were perfectly designed and easy to run. I'm sure you never house ruled anything either, because Gygax knows best, and will tell you at any opportunity. After all, he knows your group better than you.

I like my Games with Tons of rules for everything, with so many options it would make your head spin.

Everytime I see a streamlined or simplified game it comes off as not as complete. Ive looked into True20, C&C and older editions and other games just for fun, and all I find is a Crapfest book and system. The game isnt rocket Science.
If someone like me who graduated in the lower 5% of his class in 2001 can understand the game then theres no real excuse other people cant. Heck my brother was playing at age 9 or 10 couldnt read due to his learning disability and was still able to come to the table and play without me coaching him on what to do. So I dont feel sorry for people who whine and complain about the current game. Find anther game and leave the one I like alone! Obviously the majority of people like the complicated 3.5 edition of the game or WOTC wouldnt continue to make the game.

Didn't you just see me warn someone against sarcasm?

Folks, sarcasm is not substance. It is a negative emotional appeal that does not constructively add to the conversation. In a polarized discussion, it does not help change anyone's mind. It only raises ire.

So, cut out the sarcasm. Last warning.

As one of the old farts - and I look so youthful, too! - let me remind people to please avoid language that slams a whole group of people. I have no doubt that you can make your point without insulting folks in the process.

It would be nice if this was consistently applied to grognards as well. Every other post by a select group of posters consistently rants about newer gamers, whines about the loss of creativity, etc, effectively bashing an entire group of people, and are routinely ignored. Mike Mearls threw out an off the cuff theoretical redesign of a Rust Monster and practically saw death threats here with nary a peep from the mods. But criticize Gygax? Watch out! You'll get warned.

A little less favoritism would be nice.

I believe there's a place to lodge complaints.

I have criticised Mr Gygax here and not been warned as a result, probably because I wasn't rude.

As a grognard and an elitist :p , if there's one thing I hate more than dumbing down, it's the misappropriation of the term 'dumbing down'. The new statblock format doesn't dumb anything down, nor does 3e's central mechanic.

I think that "dumbing down" isn't the right word, or even something to really worry about. I've played all kinds of games and different editions with some d.u.m.b. people. I don't think the rules really are the issue. Dumb is dumb is dumb.

If you have a problem with moderation, take it to e-mail. Do not derail the thread with it.

It is becoming apparent that folks around here are still very touchy about Edition Warz. Too touchy to recall The Rules. Clearly, this thread is now more about the insults than the original question. That means it is no longer constructive.

*thunk*
