WotC enters IOS partnership

Afaik, a game like Next would need to be done already, if WotC were releasing it for GenCon 13. Anyway, obviously I do not know anything more than everyone else, but if you listen to the podcasts with Mearls, you really get the impression that this (the game) is nowhere near done and neither is the play testing. /shrug.

I know even less than anyone else. But I will speculate that the fine folks over at WOTC are feeling a bit behind the technology curve when it comes to digital tools. Yes, the Character Builder is good and the Monster Builder is good, but silver light is gone or going. Kinda hard to imagine some sort of portable interface isn't on their radar in some fashion. Sadly, I believe Next will thrive or die by the strength of their digital tools.

SilverLight was on the way out at the time they announced the Character Builder, but WotC's answer was that they had been working on the product for a while in secret, and it'd be too expensive to switch to something not clearly doomed. It was not a great moment for the company's management.

D&D begs for official Android/iOS support. Being able to use electronic sheets on pads and phones it's the way to go.

So, at this point, they've released Lords of Waterdeep, which seems to have been well-received. The press release about the game seems to imply this is the only one they're doing:
Back in April, Wizards of the Coast announced our partnership to bring a Dungeons & Dragons™ title to iOS devices and at the recent GenCon game show we announced that the title we are doing is Lords of Waterdeep!
So no Dungeon! or Wrath of Ashardalon seem to be coming, alas.
