I saw this a while back. I cringed. Do people actually play the game like that? Talking all third person about their characters?
Below are two examples, the first one is how my group (and most groups I've seen) usually plays. The second is what WotC appearantly expects people to play like.
DM: {Description-y crap}. What's everyone doing?
PC1 (Regdar, Fighter-dude): I'm checking out the tapestries, looking for hidden exits.
PC2 (Dorinath, Rogue/Monk-dude): I'm going to sneak a peak at the altar, checking for traps.
PC3 (Sterrance, Cleric-guy): I'll watch the hallway we just came from, so we don't get ambushed.
PC4 (Allie, Wizard-chica): I'm looking at the bookshelves, trying to scope out any magic tomes.
-----
DM: {Blah, blah, description, blah.} What are you doing?
PC1 (Regdar): Regdar is looking for hidden exits behind those tapestries.
PC2 (Dorinath): Dorinath is going to use his trapfinding to look for traps.
PC3 (Sterrance): Sterrance stands in the door, looking for trouble.
PC4 (Allie): I laugh giddily to myself as I check out the bookshelves.
DM: Who let the f***ing LARPer in?
-----
I just don't see the appeal to that second one, but whatever.
