[WOTC] Minis Spotlight

Well, I play HeroClix, so I don't have a problem with random. The paintjobs on those...just...WOW...That's my only complaint with HeroClix...some of them have god awful paint jobs. I've said it since first announced, I'll be buying these. :)

I read the Spotlight article, and it all sounds like gibberish to me. As a DM who may/may not be interested in pre-painted minis, random, blind packaging is not a selling point no matter how much savings is being passed on to me. For about 2 or 3 bucks, I can just go buy a Mind Flayer. No trading involved. I don't get the potential appeal.

The Classes of the Miniature books?

Looking at the gallery, we might guess that the new base classes introduced in the miniatures books will be:

Wanderer
Captain
Skirmisher

Possibly Pyromancer too.

First and foremost is simplicity. If you're a long-time role-player, "simplicity" might sound suspiciously like "dumbing down," but it's not. If you're new to the world of D&D and/or miniatures, having only two buying choices rather than a catalog of 80 is a tremendous boon. Buying the right thing on your first try will be pretty automatic. Going home from the store empty-handed because the item you wanted was out of stock will be unlikely.

Oh? And going home empty handed (or with hands full of minis you can't use) and several dollars poorer because you couldn't pull the mini you were looking for is SOOOO much better.

Of course not, but the fact remains that this will allow WotC to make the minis that only a few people want. And if a secondary market doesn't spring up, allowing you to buy the one you want, i'll be surprised.

What were they thinking

Someone has been hanging out with the mage knight people too damn much!
God they look aweful and cheap, Guess Dark Reaper will be getting more of my money, and at least then Ill know what Im spending my money on.

Well, they are definantly a mass produced minis line. I'll say that the scuplts are good for the most part. I really liked the Elf Pyromancer and the Human Wanderer. If I pick up any of them, they'd be a cheap alternative to fill out ranks. However, there are a couple that I'll strip down and repaint. They look better than most Mage Knight minis, but they still don't hold a candle to a good metal mini with even a so-so paint job.

BLAH! Didn't like the whole idea to begin with. Though I do enjoy mini games. But after seeing these I can happily pass them buy.
