Peter Schaefer's Blog said:A character class has distinct important qualities.
1) It performs its role.
b) It fits its power source.
c) It matches its class.
This last is the hard one. Role and power source are defined outside of the class, so we can refer to what we know about those, and they've been given a lot of thought. But to make a class act like that class - it's circular and never intuitive until you stumble upon a right definition. I'm working on nailing that down now, ensuring that the fighter acts like the fighter, the paladin feels like the paladin, and so on. Because ideas never hurt, I turn to the masses for inspiration.
Tell me what makes each class be that class. Ignore mechanics, and answer the following questions:
What does it mean to be [CLASS]?
What's cool that the [CLASS] does?
What should the [CLASS] do?
Let's see what this turns up.
Wow. It's flame war bait and they actually asked for it.
