Yes, because when your favourite doesn't win, they cheated.

Where was this poll? Finding something from the WotC website is like playing poker when you're blind.

No, because the poll results showed a trend for several days and then within an hour or two one of the poll options received a surge of votes that put it into the lead.

Anonymous polls on the internet are only good for one thing: entertainment.

Trying to base business decisions on such polls is utter folly.

Well, d'oh. That's how polls on the internet work. Someone puts a poll up. Then someone posts on their favourite forum that there's a poll up and people should go vote. Surges of votes should be more expected than a steady trickle.

Note that I'm not saying that internet polls have any credibility to begin with.

I'm looking... and not finding.

I originally saw the results, not the original poll. I thought it was from Legends & Lore column by Mike Mearls, but I can't find it now. It should be on the front page of the Article Archive at Wizards.com.

If they ever gave the World of Greyhawk the 4e treatment, I might take a look, to see what I could pilfer, retrofit, and "claim and rename". Granted, part of the charm of the setting is that no two fans can agree on which Oerth is best; 1e, 2e, 3e... pre-Wars, post-Wars, etc etc. I would expect any further "official" Greyhawk materials to be similarly received.

Well seeing how 4e has for the most part ignored any settings for D&D before FR... Even to the point of there being a passage in the PHB that claims FR was the first campaign setting I'm glad Greyhawk did as well as it did over the current default setting.

Actually, I just noticed that they corrected that when they transplanted the sidebar into the Rules Compendium--it lists the first campaign settings as Greyhawk, Dragonlance and the Forgotten Realms.

Granted, there was a bit of a 'get out the vote' effort on the DL boards, which may have had an impact.

...popularity is not just measured in who likes it, but also in who dislikes it. The more "special" a setting, the higher number of people will like AND dislike it...

Out on a limb with another example; This week Pawnsplay has been annoying me several times with contrary views. At the same time, I constantly find myself out of Xp to give him for other posts. Intelligent posts like his (yours) provoke both ire and agreement.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease AND the kick.

I guess that's why PR people used to say that all attention is good attention.
